JFo
It looks as if we have the first teaser image of Perfect Dark Zero now: Obviously, this long-awaited sequel will show up for the Xbox 360, and I figured it was time this game had a thread of it's own. Personally, I'm hoping for two things from this game. I want the aiming mechanic to feel more like Halo and less like Goldeneye (or TimeSplitters for that matter), and I want it to be hard as hell without being unfair. Getting through all of the missions on Perfect Agent difficulty was a year-long ordeal for me, because you had no checkpoints during a level and if you screwed up, you had to start all over. I don't think I'd have the patience for that kind of gameplay anymore. Anyway, I really hope Rare knocks this one out of the park. I loved the first game, and a good follow-up has been long overdue. foogledricks
My experience with Golden Eye and Perfect Dark is mixed. For one, the games made dizzy. The low framerate made my head spin. It is not the fault of the game though, since that was par for any N64 FPS. But that was seared into my memory, where in contrast, Half-LIfe and UT rocked at 60+fps. Anyway, I have high hopes for this game, simply because it is Microsoft's proxy for Halo 3. It HAS to be kick ass, since it is their flagship title for their launch. I have faith in Rare and Microsoft to give us something great. That being said, I have no flipp'n clue what this game will be like. I have no specific expectations. I HOPE it isn't just a pretty, slightly enhanced version of the N64 game. I'd like to see some innovative gameplay.
Camp
Anyway, I have high hopes for this game, simply because it is Microsoft's proxy for Halo 3. It HAS to be kick ass, since it is their flagship title for their launch. That's exactly what has me pumped too. It just has to rock. I loved Goldeneye but just couldn't get into Perfect Dark. The art was cool, the character was cool but the story didn't grab as quick as I would have liked. It was OK, don't get me wrong, but it just wasn't my thing. I'm also not exactly a fan of Rare. I've seen way too much emulation and not enough innovation from them. Still, I'm very excited about the potential for Perfect Dark Zero and really want to see Rare prove they were worth half a billion dollars. foogledricks
I just thought of something. Microsoft's two flagship titles will be all about the hot chicks. No doubt they're banking on DOA4 and PD to push units. There only other big title will probably be PGR3. So look for a lot of sex in the Xbox 360's marketing campaign. Mark my words. bickle
After seeing that concept art/teaser, I'm convinced that PDZ will be the best Alias game EVAR! (ok, that wouldn't be a big accomplishment, but it reminds me of Alias & the game should rock)
Derrik Draven
I don't know shit about Perfect Dark, either this new one or the old one on the N64. Still, seeing as how many people have been really looking forward to this sequel, I'm guessing the original was a pretty damn good game? As far as not having any checkpoints in the levels, I had to endure that through Enclave. I finished the whole game but, I don't like having to restart over and over. Frustrating as hell! I hope they don't do that!
Angry the Clown
The low framerate made my head spin. It is not the fault of the game though, since that was par for any N64 FPS. I was ok with Goldeneye, but Perfect Dark gave me similar symptoms. I'm hoping for two things from this game too. The first being that Rare actually manage to deliver the goods, and the second....... that Elvis the sodding alien isn't in it! Daniel PS: Actually three things... Bring back the laptop gun. kelley
Yawn.........really could care less about this title. I'm sure Ed Fries is wanting this title to be a HUGE hit so he can call up MS and be like, told you buying Rare was a good idea.
JoeyN
I enjoyed Perfect Dark when it first came out on N64. Trying to play it now gives me a headache from how bad the framerate is. Im really looking forward to PDZ capt
dienekes96
Because it was the spiritual successor to Goldeneye. I was thrilled when I got it. They tried to fit 10 pounds of crap in a 5 pound bag, and it showed. But I'd love to see a next (next) gen sequel. I agree with Dan, bring back the laptop gun. And a few of the others. PD had some great levels, and some dull levels. But I enjoyed playing it, and still put it in fropm time to time. I'm now 100% interested in XBOX 360. Thanks for the heads up, Chuck
merlot
Goldeneye and Perfect Dark were two of my favorite N64 titles, as well as two of my favorite FPS's on any console. I played the shit out of those titles, and multiplayer kicked ass. The funny thing is, while in general spawn killing is frowned upon, my friends and I took great pleasure in setting up the briefcase turrent gun in the spawn areas. You would spawn, die, spawn in a new spot, die, spawn back to the other spot, die, then finally get to a spot where you were safe. It was actually pretty entertaining, funny, and frustrating all at the same time. We did the same thing in Goldeneye with proximity mines. Anyway, I really don't think Rare will screw this up. How many years has it been developement? It seems like AGES ago that MS scooped up Rare. I'm really looking forward to this.
Thrillho
LOL, that was always funny, "alright no spawn killing". first thing you see is people setting up the laptop guns... :lmfao
ballmeat
I must admit, I was a huge spawn killer in Perfect Dark and Goldeneye but it was more entertaining then anything. The only problem with the proximity mines is you had to make sure you killed your opponent first otherwise your plan would back fire. EnemaEms
Now I know why you guys always spawned kill in Lockdown....it stemmed form the N64 days. -Dean-
Romier S
Yeah um, well, I know these are early shots and all but thus far Perfect Dark Zero is really not doing much of anything at all for me. If this is to be the title that replaces the void left by Halo at launch......eep. It looks like there is alot of work left to do on this one. Now to be fair according to 1up.com these shots and the game itself is running on an "Alpha" dev kit that is only using two of the three cores and a "run of the mill" ATI GPU instead of the final GPU set. Which means there is good reason to believe what we're seeing here is very very early. My only thoughts are...what kind of fire is MS going to be putting under Rare's ass to get the game ready for release by the end of the year? You can read the full preview article at 1up.com: http://www.1up.com/do/feature?cId=3140401&did=1 Lots of good info on the multiplayer which sounds like it has alot of potential. JFo
Unimpressive. Those screenshots make it look like an Xbox game that got ported over to the 360. Rare can do better than this.
merlot
I'll without hold my judgement till the final build is out. No I won't. Looks like ass.
Dan B.
Looks like an Xbox game! Very disappointing to say the least.
Angry the Clown
Out of interest, how many of the folks from Rare who worked on Goldeneye and Perfect Dark are actually still with the company? Daniel
Jon W H
these shots and the game itself is running on ... a "run of the mill" ATI GPU instead of the final GPU set[/b']. From that statement, I don't understand why some people are displeased with the screenshots. Let's see the screenshots from the actual GPU set before judging the book by its cover... Angry the Clown
As I thought then. So here comes my second question. Has Perfect Dark Zero ever been seriously worth getting overly excited over? It's something I want to see and play without question, but I've never quite been able to sit back and expect it to be the "killer-app" some might be hoping for. I'm really hoping it delivers, and graphically I?m not going to make any judgements right now (and the graphics are of secondary importance as it is). Still, I?ve got confliction emotions regarding the game I have to say. There's a great deal I want to be retained, and a great deal of new influences (yet another game with stealth emphasis) which I'm not all that keen on.
