Romier S
Found this over at IGN: http://psp.ign.com/articles/611/611749p1.html That's right, they're going to let them play anywhere they damn well please with the upcoming SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo for PSP that will be arriving in the fall. To see how the experience translates to a handheld device, Zipper Interactive was kind enough to let us have some hands-on experience with an early build. In Fireteam Bravo the action is a separate adventure from the console games. It's still in the same universe as the other SOCOM games and three of the areas of operation in the game are similar to the console titles. It will have one new area, though, and that will be taking place in Chile, for a total of four locations. All together, these four spots will be the home of the 14 single-player missions in the game. Just like in SOCOM 3, these missions will have save points spread out through the missions so players don't have to start all over again when they die. Josh
Since this is SOCOM that we're talking about it has to have the multiplayer. What would be the point otherwise? It would be criminal to force SOCOM players to just play by themselves and so Fireteam Bravo will be supporting both ad hoc and infrastructure multiplayer modes through a Wi-Fi connection. Unfortunately, Zipper wouldn't tell us just how many people could play in the multiplayer games, but they are saying that players will be able to form clans for some team-based action. Again, expect more details to be forthcoming in the next few months. Oh, man.
kelley
very curious as to how this will control.
Gary P
Nothing like a Socom thread to bring me out of lurk mode. I'm in! Gary
EnemaEms
very curious as to how this will control. FPS on the PSP could be handled like this. Analog nub is your aiming/turning. The x, ^, o, and [] buttons are for moving. The Right shoulder button fires your weapons, The left shoulder button is your action/jump button, and the d-pad does reloading, weapon select, and zoom function. It may take a while to get used to, but it could work. IT worked for Turok on the N64. -Dean-

EnemaEms
Looks very choppy right now, but they have several months to get that all squared away. -Dean-
MrJames
Gamespot Interview and Demo Not sure I like the control scheme. First and third person games like this are going to be hard to control with only one analog stick on the PSP. Plus a Q4 release puts this in the Xbox 360 launch window. Since I don't have a PSP this will get a little too expensive for me. I will likely take a pass on this one.
Josh
I played a bit of the Socom Fireteam Braco Beta 1.0 tonight on the PSP. A couple brief impressions: 1) It's definitely SOCOM. 2) Control scheme is tough to get used to. You use a lock-on with the right trigger. 3) Respawns are a joke, and will need to be tweaked. 90% of the players spawn camp. 4) It's fun. 5) It's definitely SOCOM. 6) This will be a problem. 7) Did I mention it's SOCOM? ...more impressions later. The Daisy
I'm still waiting for my beta. For some reason UPS is requiring a signature to deliver it and my wife sleeps during the day. Looks like I might be waiting until Friday to go and pick it up from the central office. Glen
Josh
Quick update: Just read that the final version WILL support headsets and voice comm. If this is for real, omg. http://pspupdates.qj.net/2005/09/socom-ftb-to-include-voice.html
Orpheus
2) Control scheme is tough to get used to. You use a lock-on with the right trigger. Understatement. I'll have to play some more, but after one night, I'm not feeling the love...
Orpheus
After going on a massive killing spree my opinion may already be swayed in a much more positive direction. I still think sniping will be damn near impossible, the analog nub is just to unwieldy for such fine movements. But for normal run and gun action, yea, this could be really good. Feels more like Socom than Socom 2 or 3.
Josh
It's definitely more SOCOM than SOCOM 2. Very run & gunny, but fun. Feels more like Halo than SOCOM. The spawn camping is actually turning out kind of funny, because when you die, your camera stays on the guy who killed you, so you can watch him go and camp your spawn point and know exactly where he is. Wait for him to turn, respawn, and take him out. Feels pretty good.
GrumpyElf
I'm having a hell of time controlling this game... I can't tell you how much I need a 2nd analog for this game. I hope I can come to grips with it. So far, I'm not doing well at all.
Josh
I've become pretty proficient at the controls, and I've played so much that I'm sick of the one Beta map. I'll be picking this up without a doubt. Rumors are still positive that it will support voice comm. We'll see.

Josh
This will be going in the Gamefly Rental Q. -Dean- Oh, I don't think so. You're buying this so it comes with the Mic and we're gonna create a clan called 00b3rfr@g and we'll eat Cheetos and we'll kill 12 year-olds and call them names and ... and ... Oh, to have Fall 2002 back again....

Gary P
.....to relive the Face Paster days. We will eventually, in this life or the next:). I played this for a few minutes the other night (psp firmware downgrade + new 1 gig memory stick and well, I don't have to spell out the rest) I promptly got my ass handed to me. I definitely didn't hate the game like Tom did, but that lack of a second stick is definitely going to take some getting used to. I immediately went back to playing Virtua Tennis like a little bitch. 00b3rfr@g? I like it! Gary

EnemaEms
Rented this from Gamefly and have played nothing but the SIngle Player so far, and I like it. The controls were very easy to get used to. The commands to give to your partner are also quite easy. I also unlocked some things for SOCOM 3, but since I don't have that I can't tell you what they are. I plan on taking Fire Team Bravo online in the next couple of days to try it out. -Dean-

My concern being that the controls would be too cumbersome and distract from the gameplay. Socom FTB definitely exceeded my expectations. The control scheme and presentation are great.
