Covak
Auto Assault Official Website A dude at work here was at E3 last week and he brought back a bunch of goodies. I flipped through NCSoft's booklet and the pages about Auto Assault caught my eye. A MMORPG vehicular combat game? Funky! And it uses Havok physics :tu I really like the idea. GameSpy has some more info about the game, including a couple of good interviews. Cool to hear that you can own multiple vehicles (and some may be more appropriate for certain missions than others), and, personally, I'm happy to hear that you should be able to do almost everything solo, if you choose. Here's hoping the game ends up being fun.
Chris F
Im in the beta, but have not had the chance to play yet. I think the beta will be open tonight (only certain hours of certain days is the beta playable), but I won't be home from the airport in time to try it out. ChoiceStriker
Cool - I've always thought this would be a fun idea for a game. The vehicular pursuit/combat portions of the GTA games always struck me as something that would work really well in a multiplayer environment. Mark E
Must... make with... the bumping... For those who don't know, you can sign up for beta weekend this weekend via Penny Arcade's website. I haven't heard much of this game in a while now, although I have to say the website has certainly upped my interest some. Hopefully see some of you out there making with the car wars this weekend :tu

Bad controls, crappy use of physics, terrible performace, and incredibly boring/uninteresting combat. It feels like you're driving a micro machine around some ugly toy world or something. I don't care for the feel of it at all. I'll give it another try when they get the performance problems under control, but I don't expect it to get much better, overall. Tom
It sucks if this is as bad as you guys are saying it is. I'm still going to give it a go, but I was getting my hopes up. I hope I'm pleasantly surprised, while I'm now going into this weekend cautiously pessimistic.
Robot Monkey
I'm on the Breakdown (nice) server, biomek named "Robot Monkey." Number6, Sharon and Boomer were all taken. I just had a VPU crash (graphics look AWFUL, IMHO, BTW, PDQ, esq.), so I'm taking a break. I remain pessistically cautious.
Tom
I'm on now, on the Breakdown server as well, with a character named Boogaloo. So far I haven't done much, so I can't say I'm impressed or not, but I do know that the sound effects are not working for me and that really detracts from the game. It's odd, because the music is working just fine. I think I'm still in some training area, so time to go tool around some more.
Tom
So... there's like... half a game here. There's potential, but man is this thing not ready for a release date anytime soon. Graphics were just okay - character creation graphics were ass, models in game and the terrain was just okay, game got a bit jumpy when a lot of stuff was on the screen so poor load handling - to be expected on what essentially became an open beta weekend because of PA, I could not hear any local sound effects (e.g. engine, guns, etc). And the biggest annoyance of all was that Mark and I were in a convoy, standing in the same spot on the map, and we could not see each other. So we couldn't quest together... and that's when we logged... Other than that, the game reminded me of playing Interstate '76. Now if it just had a funk soundtrack like that game did, things would be a whole lot better...
Robot Monkey
Other than that, the game reminded me of playing Interstate '76. I don't know -- I remember I-76 being a hell of a lot of more fun than Auto Wars so far. I played a little more, but certain things started pissing me off. Mostly, I couldn't get into the "See that foozle? Bring me 4 of them." gameplay because the story and setting didn't come off well. I was really psyched for a Car Wars (or Wasteland or Fallout or Mad Max) setting. As it stands, I find the setting they came up with completely uninteresting. How did they screw that up?! Mark E
Yeah, I dunno, the combat was sort of fun in a total chaos sort of way, but it was nothing amazing. I could see fun there, but like I told Tom while we were in the exact same location and unable to see one another (nice job), it has a thick veneer of ass covering it. I really don't feel particularly jonesed to continue exploring this just because for something so far along it feels like it has a loooong way to go. If it was free a la Guild Wars I'd try to get into it, but it's not, so I'd rather just pay for something I'll enjoy like WoW .

Robot Monkey
Damn this game looks like a blast Bruce, I merged your new thread with the existing one. As you can see, impressions tend towards the less-than-impressed at the last stage of the game's development. Perhaps the final will be different.
