The price has been confirmed by Tecmo at 29.99. You can read the report here:

However, today, Tecmo officials confirmed Ninja Gaiden Black will indeed retail at the discounted price. "Yes, it's true," said a spokesman for the company, who added, "I hope that the gamers will realize how incredible of a bargain NGB is!"

While Tecmo is eager to publicize Ninja Gaiden Black's affordability, the publisher emphasized that its low price point will not affect its quality. "I don't want you to think that NGB is going to be a cheap re-make of NG because Team Ninja has been working their butts off to completely revamp the game from the ground up and adding loads of new stuff," the Tecmo rep cautioned.

So what was changed for this version? This is the same game but with the downloadable information from Live already on the game correct?

That is correct. It also features two new difficulties -- Ninja Dog and Master Ninja -- for novices and advanced players respectively. There will also be some bonus material and the arcade version of the original Ninja Gaiden.

The updated version kicked my ASS. Those damn cats. I tried to play through, but quit because they were too hard.

The arcade game inclusion doesn't float my boat. I much preferred the NES version, and never unlocked it. I thought that game was harder than this game. Shorter, but harder.

Ditto. I wonder if Black will let you select an easier difficulty setting with the Hurricane Pack content, because IIRC, you were stuck with just Pretty Fucking Hard.

With everything being integrated and the Ninja Dog difficulty being available, I think it's a distinct possibility Dan.

That would also be a new addition, since you couldn't select the difficulty of the Hurricane Packs when you chose to play them.

Rather fortuitous that I just took so long to get around buying it I suppose. I’ve no excuses for passing up the revised release when it comes out. Great price too. I remember playing a demo level from the game and loving it to bits and it still amazes me how I left it so long in actually getting round to buying a copy.

I’ll import this one unless they decide not to censor the European version as they did the original release (thanks to Germany the decapitations had to go apparently).

OMG I have been playing Ninja Gaiden 1 on my GBA SP via NES emulation. I was slowly working my way through it for months. On our recent trip to Vegas I was playing it a lot (like on the plane and during our drive to Sacramento). OMG Ninja Gaiden 1 is the hardest game I've played in ages. It makes Maximo 1 & DMC1/3 look like a damn Barbie game. Thank god for the emulation. It took me hours of reloading save states to get through stages 5-2,5-3, and I'm on 6-1, I think. I can't believe people actually beat this on the NES.

Goodness, don't play the sequel then. It's harder than the first. Though the third game on the NES was a disappointment because if how much easier it was if I remember correctly. I finished them all back in my NES days (had alot more patience then). Excellent games. :tu

Believe it! I beat part I, II, and I think part III. Not sure if I cheated, but the only way I could beat Part I, was with the Jump n' Slash powerup. But since there are THREE iterations of bosses at the end, I had to run through the ENTIRE last act, beat the boss with the jump n slash. Kill myself so that I could "continue" from the start of the last act so that I could regain the jump n slash again. And do that again after that. I think just that portion took like 3 hours, not counting the rest of the game.

But it was all worth it. I LOVED this game. And that love flowed right into NG for Xbox. Now I'm counting the days until Ninja Gaiden 2.

Well, I'm still playing it, it's just frustrating. I take it bits at a time. I had one point that my character was bouncing back and forth being pummeled by panthers, birdies, and a little bouncy dwarf looking guy unti he died and I just wanted to laugh at the absurdity of it.

Birdies > Ninjas

Funny you should mention that because Ninja Gaiden III is the only one I haven't beaten. I think that's simply because it's the only one that has a limited number of continues versus the unlimited amount you get in the first two.

Basically, those old games are all about level memorization. I almost think of them as a dance. It's possible to do each level perfect every time, but you have to learn the moves. Since the A.I. was extremely limited in those games, you can almost always count on the level being exactly the same every time you play it.

Still, it was a real bitch having to start over at the beginning of the last act in the first game. Which of the three bosses did you guys find the most difficult? I always had a hard time with Jaquio.
