Supreme Commander - New Chris Taylor RTS

Well, despite the fact that I wasn't that big a fan of Total Annihilation back in 1997 when I was completly obsessed with RTS games, and currently have no real desire to play any RTS, I saw the new issue of PC Gamer today with their cover story of Supreme Commander, the new game from Chris Taylor, and I was intrigued.

Anyone read this yet? Look interesting at all?

I'm not a huge fan of RTS games (its been years since I've played one let along enjoyed one) however I LOVED Total Annihilation back in the day. That along with Starcraft were my 2 favorites (Some of the C&C games were decent too). I loved TA because the focus was on building up mass amounts of units and having these big battles. I hate RTS games that focus on resource management so this is why I really enjoyed TA. I'm interested to see what Chris Taylor is doing these days. I'll dig up some info on this new game.

Aparently Gamespy has the web exclusive first look at it, so since PC Gamer's article is out, I would expect that soon.

And so it begins.

I'm freakin excited :)

A couple of my favorite features mentioned in today's article:

- The base commander. You give him an area to watch and not only will he automatically repair things in his area, he'll rebuild destroyed things :tu

- Cooperative play through the campaign, woot!

I hope the build tree isn't like TA. Having 8 different construction units that all built different buildings a pain in a game that had too much micromanaging anyway.

Maybe I'll read the article and have my questions answered.

It's going to be TA x 10. TA battles were huge for its day, but this is going to make them look miniscule. :)

But, if you didn't like TA, I could imagine you not digging the feel here. Personally I loved TA because it was the only RTS that I was good at. In most RTS's I always forget about my workers. In TA I could queue 'em up to build 10 of something then go harvest some resources and then just let them do their thing so that I could worry about the defenses.
