SOCOM 3 Discussion

I haven't read up on all the features that much. However, I think they were supposed to implement something to scale back the size of the map dependent on the number of players. Anyone know if that actually made it in? If not then even if we get 8-10 of us in a room, the map is way too big to play by ourselves, unless you're just interested in exploring (which is fine too)

So the games finally out. Did anyone happen to pick it up and give it a whirl? I took a look at the box at the store and was thinking about it but with Battlefront II being so close to release I decided to wait until I heard some more about it. The reviews have been pretty positive so far.

I passed on Socom 3. I've checked everything and can't get my PS2 online anymore. It has to be some problem with either the PS2 or network adapter. I'm not willing to spend any money on a new adapter or slimline PS2 to troubleshoot since I rarely play anything with PS2. I won't be online with Sony again until PS3.

I hope Zipper is now hard at work on the next gen Socom.

I bet we'll see one more Socom for the PS2. They'll no doubt start pre-production on a next gen version of the game, but there is still more life left to the PS2 and I can see them taking advantage of it for those that don't want to upgrade initially.

I'll more than likely just end up skipping Socom 3 then. I'll stick to Battlefront at the end of the month.

Apparently the game is a mess right now. All kinds of bugs:People having problems hosting more than 16 users, players can't change weapon load-outs between rounds, more headshots than kills, silenced weapons that aren't supopsoed to be silenced, and of course chat problems (tied into the hosting problems). And they think they're ready to implement a profanity filter for next-gen stuff?:)

Not one to be outdone in the Microtransaction department, Sony is releasing the first Socom Map Pack for download today! The Map Pack will include three maps and will be free for the first two weeks of use. Players will then need to pay $5.99 if they want to keep on playing. Here is the report:

http://ps2.ign.com/articles/714/714938p1.html

"We are excited to give IGN the news first that starting tomorrow, June 27, SOCOM 3 Map Pack #1 will become available for online download," a Sony representative stated. As a thank you for fans waiting patiently for the maps, the first pack will be free of charge for two weeks, ending on July 11, 2006. After the initial trial period, fans will be asked to purchase the pack at $5.99 in order to continue playing the new stages.

The first map pack will feature the classic SOCOM II hard drive levels After Hours, Liberation, and Last Bastion. All three maps will be playable with up to 16 players, and can be played in day or nighttime settings. After Hours features Suppression, Demolition and Control modes, while Liberation features Suppression, Demolition, Control and Escort modes. Last Bastion will focus upon Suppression, Extraction, Breach and Control for gameplay.
