PHiL
I was searching yahoo news and came across this..thought you guys would be interested in taking a look.. Man Dies From Video Games
JFo
I remember reading something similar to this a few years ago. In fact, it was almost the same scenario. It involved a South Korean guy spending some ungodly amount of time in a cyber cafe playing some online game and dying soon afterwards. I almost wonder if this is same story or just a second incident. Still, 50 hours? I don't care how much you love a game. That's just plain lunacy. PHiL
Yea this is the 2nd Incident.. I remember one awhile back as well...But i dont believe it was this long.. And Your Right 50 hours is still ridiculous. * Phil*
Tom
What was he to do? The lineup to get into Battlegrounds can be really long. Seriously, this doesn't surprise me with an MMO and the way the South Korean populace latches onto the genre so religiously.
JoeyN
Yeah 50 hours is way too extreme. The guy did quit work just to play games so I think he family should have got him some help. After the marathon in COH to finish the reactor quest that one night for 8 hours I dont see how someone can sit there any longer capt
Robot Monkey
They said this happened at a cybercafe and then they mention that he took breaks for short naps on a makeshift bed. So this smelly, undoubtedly sick-looking guy was, like, there in public the whole time and no one sent him home for a shower or anything? And they let him sleep there?! Are most gamers in cybercafes smelly and sickly-looking, so this wasn't unusual?
MastaRedSnappa
According to this article, the guy was playing Starcraft. Starcraft is a great game and all but the shit came out in 1998! Dude, if you're going to die gaming, at least die playing a game from this millennium!
General Zot
Koreans are really nuts about this stuff and cybercafes are huge out there. To see someone playing for hours while exhausted wouldn't even raise an eyebrow, half of the folks there play for 8+ hours and looked tired as heck. It's like going to a lake in the US and laying odds on which boat full of beer swilling yahoos is going to have someone pass out and possibly die. Sure, one guy might look really poor but it's like pulling a slightly larger needle out of a pretty sizable needlestack. And similar to the US, it's considered somewhat taboo to tell someone they've had enough of something. No wonder these people can farm an MMORPG like no one's business, they are crazy out there. This is South Korea, so it's not really a "cybercafe" per se. It will have been in a baang - a dimly lit dingy back room with crappy tables & chairs & filled with PCs playing weird MMORPGs & Starcraft. Noone in it will have particularly cared about the smell of him as they likely couldn't tell because of the state of the baang.
