Graeme
A few days ago I did a format on a friend's computer and am having some troubles getting the Sound Card going. She has a SB Live 5.1 Digital and from what I can gather, the drivers on Creatives website are all upgrade drivers that will not work unless the card has already been installed with the drivers from the install CD.... which she doesn't have anymore. I tried downloading a few different drivers from the website, and they all simply say that a Sound Blaster wasn't found on the computer. Has anyone had any experience with this? Do I have to have the CD to get the card working? I tried looking for drivers on other websites and came up a bit empty handed. I also tried a 3rd party driver which didn't work either. It seems like it's possible for me to extract the drivers from the EXE that was downloaded from Creative, but I'm not sure if these will work, and I don't want to waste more of her time experimenting on her computer. kelley
I cannot for the life of me remember the link, but some people have made open source drivers for the SB cards and they are much much much better then the Creative developed ones. Graeme
I did download an Open Source driver (that's what I meant by 3rd Party), but that wasn't working either, although I was kind of rushed at that point and didn't get to fool around with it much. If anyone has any suggestions for Open Source drivers, I'd be open to that also.
GreenMonkey
There shouldn't be any upgrade drivers. The full drivers should do the job. I would suspect that the card is having a problem. I would suggest re-seating the card as a first step. I find it doubtful that this is an issue with not having the correct driver. #1 Windows XP has a default SB driver that works fine! #2 The downloadable drivers, like all drivers, is standalone, and shouldn't require the old drivers to work. Graeme
I've tried re-seating the card and putting it in a different slot. Windows detects is as a Multimedia Audio device I think, or something like that. Since I don't have access to the computer, it's kind of difficult to troubleshoot it. GreenMonkey
Hmmmm If it sees a Multimedia Audio Device, the hardware is registering, and it is indeed a driver issue.
