Sam P
As discussed here, I adore games like GTA where you have plenty of "freedom". As described here, The Simpsons: Hit & Run is going to be tantamount to GTA in Springfield. I can't wait. There was a lousy PC title, released many years back called Virtual Springfield. I was young and na?ve, and I thought it would be a dedicated recreation of the Simpsons world where you could do just about anything. It wasn't. I think Hit & Run will be the game I always wanted but never got. Anyone else?
Mark E
I don't hold a lot of hope for this because it's based on a license, frankly. Maybe that's just because I still hold residual bad feelings after 'Bart Vs. The Space Mutants'. To my mind the only good Simpsons title I've played was Konami's mind-blowingly fun 4-player arcade game. Now THAT should be brought to the consoles . But I don't approach this game with any less trepidation than I do any other game based on a license.

I'm looking forward to it, although I'm not sure if I'll get it right away. But the idea of letting you have a free run around Springfield to complete your missions is very appealing, especially if the game comes with the injokes that are usually the one good thing about Simpsons games The only thing I'm not crazy about regarding the game is that it really ought to have been cell-shaded. Angry the Clown
I too was quite worried given the previous attempts at Simpsons games. I'm still not entirely confident it will be an absolute winner, but it must be said, the current feedback in previews from the gaming press is really very good, certainly the best reports a Simpsons game has ever had, which granted is not saying much, but this really could be a fun game. To my mind the only good Simpsons title I've played was Konami's mind-blowingly fun 4-player arcade game. Now THAT should be brought to the consoles I remember that. Good looking game as I recall! I can't remember the objective though.... Side scrolling deal wasn't it? What did you have to do in it again? There was a lousy PC title, released many years back called Virtual Springfield. I was young and na?ve, and I thought it would be a dedicated recreation of the Simpsons world where you could do just about anything. Hehe, I had that. It wasn't TOO bad. Interesting idea, but rather clumsy in its execution. It had a few cute things though, like if you got into Skinner's office you could log on to Springfield Online and read some of his e-mails. The world needed a point and click adventure game with the Simpsons, I'm talking day of the tentacle/monkey island style here. Such a game would have been even better suited for a Futurama game. Why no one has thought of doing either for the PC is beyond me.... Daniel

What did you have to do in it again? Well, basically Smithers wearing a cape for some reason robs a jewellery store, also for some reason . The Simpsons walk by as they're fleeing the scene and Smithers crashes into Homer. A diamond goes flying and ends up in place of Maggie's pacifier so the crooks steal Maggie and run off. It was in the style of the TMNT arcade games that Konami did so well. Lots of clever jokes and homages, including a graveyard scene that was a near-take-off of Thriller. Just smash through as many bad dudes as possible and save the day. Absolute blast though. Why no one has thought of doing either for the PC is beyond me.... Because unfortunately the adventure game genre is on total life support right now, buoyed up by several stalwart peoples who put out the one or two games that make up the entire genre per year. You know I just watched a Hit and Run clip where Homer exits a truck and proceeds to kick and punch a woman and then be chased by the police! It was just plain wrong to see... Mark E
proceeds to kick and punch a woman and then be chased by the police! Angry the Clown
I'm wondering what the longevity of the game will be. Watching some of the videos (I am in london exploiting broadbad access for the weekend. ) it seems a little linear, though perhaps that's just IGN's lack of variation in clips on offer. It is odd to see some of the characters modeled in 3D. In one (albeit funny) cutscene, Marge looks plain awful and Quimby's mouth is just all wrong. The voice work does indeed seem good though and it appears to run very smooth. Had he just paid her for oral sex and wanted his money back? Now THAT would be just plain wrong to see I'll pretend I didn't read that. Daniel
Sam P
Speaking of Konami arcade-style brawlers and the like, TMNT looks very promising also. Unlike Virtual Springfield, I loved the SNES TMNT games, especially playing co-op 2 player. What's everyone's favorite turtle? I like Michelangelo - the "party dude". Romier S
Donatello fan here as well. Always drawn to the brain of the group, if not him I like Raph as well.
Robot Monkey
Well there was 3D Homer in that Treehouse of Horror episode. -j
Sam P
I think the lack of cell-shading for Hit & Run may or may not detract from the game. I'm going to reserve judgement till I try it for myself.

There are many rules about how Simpsons characters must move and look, even specific angles the animators are told never to show characters from, doing it 3D breaks this rules and thus things look a little odd and out of place. Still, I agree gameplay first of course. If it is indeed a good game, then 3D or cel shaded, it should still be highly playable. I'm wondering how you folks felt about its approach in light of the 2D/3D debate. -j
Mark E
Didn't play it. I watched the ad for it on the Futurama Season 2 DVD set and it looked absolutely wretched. Way to sell me ad .
EnemaEms
Gamespot has their reviews up for Hit and Run. It got an impressive 8.3. The links are below: X-box PS2 Gamecube -Dean-
Mark E
Yeah, I noticed those, color me impressed. Nice to see a license title that doesn't suck. This'll make, what, three now?
EnemaEms
THis sound great and I am going to give it a rent this weekend. An excerpt from the reviews posted above: Once you've got the cash, you can obviously buy cars from different characters; but that's not all. Each character also has a different set of outfits that can be purchased at different locations around town. Some of these outfits come directly into play with the game's storyline and are necessary to complete missions. Others are simply there for the fun of it. All the different outfits are throwbacks to episodes of the show, including Homer's muumuu from his brief flirtation with morbid obesity, Marge's cop uniform from her days as a member of Springfield's finest, and Apu's ?American? outfit, complete with baseball jersey and oversized cowboy hat. I am there just for the muumu. -Dean-
Angry the Clown
It does sound great. I'm looking forward to getting this. I love the idea of little character touches in certain locations, like Frostillicus (Jasper) freezing away at the back fo the Quick-E-Mart, and you can interact with him! It's very pleasing to see a lot of cute touches like that. Daniel

The Daisy
In the IGN review they mention that the Xbox version had an issue with sound output via the digital audio cable. Just something to think about. Glen

rustyjaw
Wow, this does look like fun. I got kind of bored with GTAIII, more because of my lack of an attention span rather than anything wrong with the game. But given the Simpsons connection, I think this might be my ticket into this genre of games...looks like great fun.
