Carlucci
Will someone who got a wireless and wired controller please do a comparison of the rumble feature and let us know if they both rumble with equal strength? I'm just curious if the wireless will pack the same punch. Carlos. ADMIN NOTE: This is a continuation of the previous 360 threads. Romier S
So I'm a walking zombie at this point, and I'm ready to go to bed about now. However not before trying out several games on the BC list as well as getting through the first mission in both Condemned and Call of Duty 2. I'm honestly floored. I love the new dashboard. I love the blades and how well everything is setup and organized. Getting my Live account transferred and everything setup on the console took less than 5 minutes and I was well on the way to getting my game on. Condemened quite literally through me for a loop when I booted it up. The clarity of the graphics, the detail present in the textures and the smoothness of everything thanks to the usage of anti-aliasing was just phenominal. The lighting in the game is also just wonderful to behold. The various filters employed really give the game a "lived in" look and the combat is just ferocious. The sound, and hell the overall atmosphere made me jump several times too. I'm utterly in love with the game, and I've no problems admitting it. I'll more than likely be playing it all damn night tommorrow so don't be shocked to see me racking up achievements quickly (did I mention how awesome achievements are?) Call of Duty 2 was also just extraordinary. It really is quite a bit better looking than its PC counterpart and runs very smoothly. I'm also a fan of the gameplay and scripted sequences COD presents, so I was captured from the minute the game booted up. The 5.1 audio in the game is out of this world too I might add. My subwoofer got a nasty workout at 3:30am. I'm sure my neighbors hate me, but to hell with them. It's not every night a new console comes out. There are so many other little nooks and crannies to explore. The Live marketplace, Xbox Live Arcade which I only took a quick glance at, and the free demos available for play. I'm awaiting some impressions of Perfect Dark from my fellow LCVG'ers, and if they are good I'll more than likely head over and pick it up tommorrow evening (though Kameo is the current front runner for my next game purchase). One last thing: GOOD FREAKING GOD RELEASE OBLIVION!
kelley
In my wife's scandanavian inspired decor the 360 fits in PERFECTLY, she even said so herself. Just like the original Xbox, the Xbox 360 has a really sturdy build. Everything just feels and looks quality. When the DVD-ROM spins up it can be a bit loud but that doesn't last for too long. The fans are silent as is the HD. As Romier stated, the new dashboard is just awesome. Its so easy to navigate and find what you are looking for. Travis and I tried chatting over Live while he was playing Gauntlet and I was in PGR3, I hope LIVE was just getting over ran because it was impossible for me to understand what he was saying and the echo/delay was horrible. Hopefully they get this fixed soon as this is such an awesome feature. God send from above though is the ability to turn on and off the 360 with the controller or remote. I love it! PS - I need an HDTV ASAP!
ColdForged
PS - I need an HDTV ASAP! Yes, yes you do. I've never been more impressed with a product, to be honest. This enters the world of hyperbole, but for me the next gen game is over... Sony simply cannot match -- and isn't even trying in many ways (e.g. Live) -- the integrated experience that the 360 delivers. And smoothly. The system interface is a joy. The ability to download demos over the Marketplace is glorious and works perfectly. Streaming my music from my PC (once I got my router set up right finally) is cake. Backward compatibility is not only seemingly flawless but seamless. Bravo Microsoft.
howiedo1n
PS - I need an HDTV ASAP! I feel the same way. Man this system look this good on this SD set, boy do I need to see some 720P goodness. Is your system positioned vertical or horizontal? Mine is in teh horizontal position with about 1ft of space on either side. I noticed two things that concerned me a bit. One is the fans seemed to run at full speed most of the time (louder then expected), and the system seemed to heat up a bit. Even the HDD. I also noticed that of the 20G HDD there is only 11G remaining after all the prepackaged goods. When I get a minute I need to see what is really on there. The system does look surprisingly good on my SD Toshiba TV. And after a quick DL of the media extender I was able to stream music and photos rather easily off my PC. That is a very nice touch. I then DLed the NBA LIVE demo but the servers must have been really bogged down since that seemed to take a rather long time. To be expected at launch. That game looked really good although the player models seemed a bit plastic. I can only imagine how great that game would look in 720P. After all the tinkering I wound up finding an option to shut down console through a text menu option. Not sure what that did but the fan was still running this morning (about 4hrs later) and the system was still hot but the ring of light was off.. Was that a stand by or sleep mode? I guess I might have to read though the manual just to make myself feel better. I can?t wait to get some more time with this system. Just a side note going to bed at 4:00am and being at work at 8:00am cant enhance productivity. And knowing is half the battle. Ouch :eh :thud
Romier S
Is your system positioned vertical or horizontal? You know for once I've actual got a system set vertically. For some reason I just love the look of the system in the vertical position moreso than than horizontal this time around.
Angry the Clown
You know for once I've actual got a system set vertically. For some reason I just love the look of the system in the vertical position moreso than than horizontal this time around. Do you think that's because it's wireless? The slightly curved nature of the device looks to lend itself a little more nicely to the vertical position than the tombstone like design of a PS2, but I'd imagine having no cables stretching across the room for the control pads also makes it more attractive as a freestanding vertical device. There's a similar kind of wedge in the disc tray like the PS2 has to stop discs falling out I take it?
LimeyYankee
Is your system positioned vertical or horizontal? Mine is horizontal too. I also have mine inside a media cabinet with about 6" on the sides and a foot from the back of it. Mine is quiet when I'm in the dashboard, but when in game you can here the fans running much louder. But once you crank up the excellent 5.1 sound, I can't here the fans, so no big deal. Maybe because it's in a cabinet, I'm not sure? Not sure what that did but the fan was still running this morning (about 4hrs later) and the system was still hot but the ring of light was off.. Was that a stand by or sleep mode? When you hit the guide button to shut down the console, you get two options, one to shut down just the controller and the other to shut everything off. Sounds like you did the first one. PackFan
Maybe this has been covered elsewhere... I have a USB converter for my X-Box controllers so that I could use one on my PC. Could this converter allow usage of original X-Box controllers on the 360?

foogledricks
Yeah, all of the 360's features and services are a big tilt factor that goes beyond just games. I think the console wars will be nasty this time around, because people who use the 360 will be so in love with its features and services, that they'll pan Sony's console more because of it. And since the PS3 will look better, well, you can see how the conversation will go.

Orpheus
Seemlessly streaming audio by wireless from my pc to the xbox while the excellent visualizations run is a thing of beauty, I was ready to pay a few hundred for a HDD enclosure based media player early this year. The fact it does it in such an easy and elegant manner (my gf even thinks she has the hang of it) is fantastic. And it plays games too!!!!

fishepa
Ok, I can't for the life of me figure out how to get sound using the VGA connecter. I don't have RCA inputs on my computer. MS supplied this adapter which converts the RCA inputs to a headphone male plug, but what do I do with that? I tried to connect it to my sound card on my PC, no dice. What the heck do I have to do? Darius
I would think you would just have to put it into an input for your speakers. Since it should be seperate from the computer. Depending on the type of speakers you have they should either have an input for the headphone jack or RCA's. If they are basic speakers they just won't work since they only have a headphone jack themselves.

NickC
How much free space is on everyones hard drive, mine is only 12 GB, and I deleted a ton of stuff that was on it, seems kinda small for a supposed 20 gb HD, I cant imagine where the other 8 or so gig is, I know it isnt going to be exact, but 12 gb? Darius
If the jack on the speakers says headphones thats for output only from the speakers. So whatever the speakers are getting input from will be reproduced there. You need a headphone jack that says input. And even then you're probably going to have to push a button or something to change inputs. I'm guessing that your speakers aren't going to work with it. Probably best bet is to plug into the audio input of your sound card. Then double click on the speaker icon in the taskbar. Then check for the audio input section to make sure its not muted and turned down. You should be able to get sound that way. This is assuming a windows PC. Covak
My speakers have a headphone jack and I stuck it that too but sound still won't come out. I'm totally confused... What's your PC using for sound? You must have a line in jack. It should just be matter of plugging it in there and making sure 'Line In' isn't muted in your computer's mixer. Or you could get a male-to-female adapter and plug your speakers right into your 360 instead of the PC...
dogbert
The rest of the space is reserved by the Xbox360 system to give to games - 360 games need space to cache files, to save temporary files etc, and the backwards compatibility emulator needs to allow space for Xbox games to save files too. If you could use the whole HD, games wouldn't be able to use it.
