Local thieves wish me a happy Thanksgiving!

This morning when I was about to leave for work and I was greeted with a nice suprise when I got to my car:

The damage: Bye bye driver's door panel, wire harness to window/lock/mirror controls cut.

Kenwood MP3/CD player gone:

The point of entry: Passenger window pried away, they probably then stuck something through and hit the latch on the inside.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I'm very thankful they didn't damage any of the car's exeterior or the center console. They also did not cut off the factory stereo wire harness! I'll be dropping in the stock old tape player this weekend.

The thieves also ignored my iPod mount and Monster charger, but they cut off the RCA ends of the Mini-jack to RCA cable that went to the head unit :(

To add insult to injury, they stole all of my stock floormats.

Other good news: insurance deductable is only $100 for theft/vandalism.

[/rant] :)

Actually, I'm thinking of taking the insurance money for the stereo and just saving it. Since I got my iPod all wired up, I never played any MP3CDs on my aftermarket head unit.

I think the stock tape deck will suffice. That is provided get some sort of adapter that lets me wire in stereo RCA jacks into the CD changer port. I think such a thing exists, anyone used something like that before for a direct wired iPod solution?

I use one in my Jeep that I got from Crutchfield. It goes in the CD bus input on the back of the head unit. Works great. Those bus adapters are specific to your factory head unit, so make sure you get the right one. I also used a casette adapter with my old truck and it was also great.

Really, I didn't know those existed. What do I search for?

You want to look for stuff in the " iPod & Portable to Factory Radio" category. For example, this is what I use.

I ran the cable through my center console into the storage bin under the center armrest (dremeled a slot for it). Now my mp3 player can live in the bin or in the center console cupholder without wires and crap all over the place.
