ChoiceStriker
I was at EBGames this weekend and saw the Point Blank 3 package with the GunCon for $19.99, so I snapped up two of them so I would have two GunCons. Point Blank 3 is a great game, but I'm wondering what else is out there that I can play with the GunCon. I know there's Point Blank 1 through 3, Time Crisis 1 through 3, Ninja Assault, and Vampire Night, but what else is there? Will the GunCon work with any light gun game? Also, anyone know what the difference is between the GunCon and GunCon2? The guy at EBGames had no idea. And obviously I mean besides the color and shape. Does anybody have any experience with any of the games I mentioned above? I'd like to hear some recommendations.
Camp
I think the Guncon 2 is for the PS2 while the original Guncon was for the PS one. If I'm not mistaken the Guncon 2 plugs in both to the video out (via a passthrough) and to the PS2's USB port. I believe the original Guncon will work with the PS2 (despite the lack of USB) but isn't quite as accurate. I may be wrong though. The Point Blank games are great...mario party with guns. The Time Crisis series is fun for a while, and Ninja Assault was just OK. Never heard of Vampire Night.
Mark E
Guncons would be worth it to get two PS2s, two TVs, and two copies of Time Crisis 2 and do the whole arcade experience. That would undoubtedly rule . I believe a new Resident Evil gun game just came out and I'm assuming that that's compatible with the guncon, but don't take my word on it. Romier S
Never heard of Vampire Night. Out of print and if you can find it..BUY IT. It is made by the folks over at Wow Entertainment (Devs behing the House of the Dead series). One of the best light gun games out there period. Fantastic graphics, great gameplay that actually requires accuracy, GunCon 1 and 2 support and some really cheeseball voice acting on top of that. I believe a new Resident Evil gun game just came out and I'm assuming that that's compatible with the guncon, but don't take my word on it. Sure did. Dead Aim and its atrocious. Though it does support GunCon 2.
heavy liquid
Which do you guys find to be the most reliable/accurate lightguns that are HDTV compatible as well? I've seen a few online, but was wondering if anyone had any recommendations. I'm guessing that the Guncon 2 isn't compatible with HDTV, or is it? Mark E
Sure did. Dead Aim and its atrocious. What!? How can the sequel to Gun Survivor be anything but a gaming masterpiece? :green:
Graeme
I thought GunCon 2 games wouldn't work with GunCon one and ViceVersa. The only other gun games for PS2 that I know of are Dino Stalker and the newly released Starskey and Hutch (also supports guns for XB). Time Crisis 3 isn't out yet. There was a few Time Crisis games for PS1, but I can't remember the names now. Bring back Virtua Cop!
Mark E
Bring back Virtua Cop! Now this is an awesome suggestion. Great game. I remember playing it in the arcades when my friend plugged the mayor during the opening hostage scene and just laughing. Ah fun .
Graeme
It's sad that it's easier to find versions of Mad Dog Mcree and Who Shot Johnny Rock than it is any of the other games mentioned (with the exception of RE: Dead Aim)
iainl
The same Namco team that did the Point Blank games also did Ghoul Panic on the PS1. In some ways the individual games are much better than the PB ones, and the use of polys to get spinning rotating zooming ghosts is pretty cool. Unfortunately, in the main mode you get a bunch of boss battles regularly as well, which aren't any good. Well worth picking up cheap, though. Romier S
Bring back Virtua Cop! Already coming. Virtua Cop 3 is being developed for the arcardes using the Xbox powered arcade board Chihiro. I would imagine an Xbox port would be in the works considering the hardward. (as well as Outrun 2 which is I'm dying to see on a console!). Read more here: Virtua Cop 3 I thought GunCon 2 games wouldn't work with GunCon one and ViceVersa. Nope. Youll find most GunCon 2 games work with GunCon 1. Though I can't speak on the other way around (though I doubt it).
Angry the Clown
I miss light gun games. A lot of TVs in Europe have this blasted 100hz picture scanning which screws up light gun games good and proper, and few TVs offer the chance to deactivate 100hz. Any idea if UK guns are starting to be made to work with 100hz, Iain? Daniel
iainl
Yep, a quick Google for "100Hz lightgun" shows PS2 and XBox models available over here. It seems that you've got to be prepared to do some testing though, as it seems only some models work with some TVs, thanks to everyone doing 100Hz slightly differently. I can confirm that Time Crisis 2 plays rather well on a 50Hz widescreen TV in two player - we had one each of the Guncon 1 and 2, and you get GT3-style 4x3 screens side by side on the 16x9, meaning its still properly playable. Angry the Clown
Thanks for the tip off... G-Con 2 is allegedly meant to work with 100hz, though I am sure that too likes some TVs more than others. I am really not a fan oz 100hz processing.... another stupid invention that hinders the image quality instead of doing what it's meant to do and make it better. Sam P
Hmm, there's already a newer Virtua Cop for the arcades. I played it recently but I forget the name. Theres a sort of slow-mo meter you can use.
