Big Daddy Bling Bling
Post how various Xbox games run on the 360 so people can be aware of any issues. I know some people probably have plans to play through original Xbox games on the 360 so it would be good to know what runs badly beforehand. So far I've tried: GTA:SA - Fine for the most part. One cutscene was missing sound. I also noticed a couple of other problems, but I don't know if they're with the Xbox version of SA itself or just with the emulation since I waited until I got my 360 to start my save. Anyways, the lighting effects from street lamps look messed up. The lights that they cast on the streets are overly opaque, and they don't cast any light on cars. Also, the sky sometimes glitches up a bit when transitioning to different times of day. Ninja Gaiden Black - Completely riddled with slowdown....a total disaster Jade Empire - Runs beautifully. Framerate appears to be unchanged, although it's hard to tell because the original framerate varied a lot. Jade Empire gets a huge benefit from the AA and looks absolutely gorgeous. The only problem is that if you play it in 720p/1080i, which forces the aspect ratio to widescreen, the game runs with bars on the left and right sides. I guess they couldn't get it to work in 16X9. merlot
Forza Motorsport - Poor framerate and from what I heard, sound issues as well.

Romier S
the game runs with bars on the left and right sides. I guess they couldn't get it to work in 16X9. All non-16x9 games run this way Bling, and good thread by the way. I wanted to get something similiar started a bit ago but never got around to it. After we get some posts happening I'll edit your original post and make a list of all titles tested so folks can reference it. The more detail, and the time spent with the game would be helpful to give folks a good idea of what they are experiencing with each of these games. Word from SNK when replying to a letter from a user asking about SNK titles not being on the BC list is that MS is really not providing much in the way of support for developers trying to get thier titles working on the 360. They have no pre-checks they can do to make sure new games are supported, and games that are on the list may come down to someone putting the game in the drive, letting it load, and if it does it's put on the list. Rather scary thought but given the inconsistency of some of these games, and some of the bugs it's not that hard to believe. Folks interested in BC can only hope that MS follows through and patches these titles to work properly over time. Here's my additions: Half Life 2 - Benefits greatly from the high resolution and AA, but is utterly crippled in the framerate department. The game has an unsteady framerate to begin with, but with BC it's that much worse. You'll also note texture flickering and a couple other visual issues as you play the game. I played up to the beginning of the jet boat level. Half Life 2 is a 16:9 game, but for some reason still displays with bars on the left and right. Anyone else seeing this? Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic - Runs full speed from what I've seen. The game benefits greatly from the high resolution upgrade and the addition of antialiasing (it looks as good as the PC version IMO). The game retains the same unsteady framerate, and it's a bit more noticeable now that the graphics are so smooth. Excellent BC on this so far. I played well into the opening planet, I'd say about 6-7 hours in. This is a non-16:9 game. Call of Cthulhu - Disappointing. The opening video, and some of the other cutscenes do not play at all. They just show small flashes of white in the corners. When you finally get in game everything looks lovely, but the game displays some slowdown in places it never appeared on the Xbox. I only played this one for about 3 hours, but it was enough for me to not bother and go back to playing the game on the good old box. This is a non-16:9 game. Prince of Persia The Sands of Time - Another fantastic BC game. Much like Star Wars, you'll see big gains from the hi-def resolutions and antialiasing. It really brings out the textures and the atmosphere. One of my favorites I've tried so far. I've played through about 4 hours of the game so far and I've not noticed a hiccup, not even with the Bink videos which the 360 supposedly has problems playing. This is a non-16:9 game. General Zot
Looks like the surest way of acheiving BC for 360 is to leave my xbox hooked up to the TV
stillfastasleep
Rented Half Life 2. I have a widescreen display, no bars for me. However, clipping issues did me in on the water hazard section with the airboat. I had clipping issues prior to this one section with the airboat going thru walls and putting me into some type of black limbo and required a restart. There is a section where I have to go under a bridge and there's a drop off. No matter what I do, go fast, go slow, skirt the sides or go up the middle, I wind up clipping thru the water and I'm in limbo land. I can see blue sky directly above me, and black all around. Attempted to get past this section about a dozen times before finally giving up. I should also mention that the demo attract mode on HL2 stutters badly. merlot
Very Strange Halo 2 problem being reported hereVideo Carlos. Wow, that's a strange overlay problem. I haven't played Halo 2 enough yet to find that problem. Since Romier is going to make this a reference thread, I'll try a few more games out and be a bit more elaborate. I will note that the menu interface in Halo 2 is MUCH more responsive on the 360. Also, the graphics are much crisper and clean on my 480i TV, but I think that's mostly due to using component on the 360 vs the s-video I used on the Xbox. Voice quality however, is the same low quality as other 360 games.

Interesting, I just started that level on the 360 so I may go ahead and throw the game back in there and play through it to see if I experience the same. I'll be taking time today to test a few more titles and I'll update the thread with my findings. Keep updating as you go guys. The more detail we get the more comprehensive the list will be. dogbert
Good news! Microsoft have updated the backwards compatible list online! Bad news! They've actually removed titles, not added, according to Joystiq. Apparently, the newly removed titles are: Catwoman, Codename: Kids Next Door, Curse: The Eye of Isis, NBA LIVE 2003, Sid Meier’s Pirates, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. [uPDATE: dvdguy found a few more removed earlier—Blinx 2, FIFA World Cup 2002, Grabbed by the Ghoulies, Legends of Wrestling, Rugby 2005, and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon 2. Check out this early IGN copy of this list to run a comparison.] Nothing that will be greatly missed, apart from maybe GR2 and Pirates. Angel P
Bad news! They've actually removed titles Shouldn't this be good news? I take removal of games from that list as a sign that MS is aware of the problems and hopefully having something done in the future.
Bappo
Halflife 2 is in 4:3 mode when you set your 360 video to 1080i. It is in 16:9 mode if you switch to 480p. I have no clue about 720p as I can't display that. 1080i is choppy on level load, 480p is not. They look about the same so it isn't all bad. Buck
Deathrow and Quantum Redshift both run at full speed and both are widescreen games. The audio in Quantum Redshift is a little louder than normal, but it's not distorted, so turning down your volume a few notches clears it up.
