November NPD - Hardware and Software numbers.

I posted a news article concerning this months NPD on the main site so you can give it a read here:

http://www.lcvg.com/news.php

I've also copied it here for you:

December 8, 2005 - The official NPD numbers are already making thier way around the internet, and they will no doubt be the subject of much debate amongst 360 owners.

The console sold through 332,000 units, falling below analyst expectations of 400,000 units being moved at launch. The shortages that some considered to be engineered by Microsoft are no doubt a large contributing factor in the lower than expected sell through of the console. I think it is safe to say the shortages are in fact genuine, and any speculation about Microsoft building hype for the 360 were rumors at best.

The shining light here is the absolutely impressive software tie-in ratio of the 360's launch lineup. Some 1.3 million software units were moved at the system launch totalling 75 million dollars worth of revenue. The 360 has a tie-in ratio of near 4:1 (4 games for every one console sold).

November also saw $818 million in games sold, versus $849 million in software sales in November 2004. Analyst projections that software sales would be disastrous were off the mark this month, though a 3.6 percent drop in sales isn't great news either.

**UPDATE: Released by the NPD Group:

It has come to our attention that the November 2005 Video Games data released today contained overstated information. Please do not use the information in your PowerView databases and/or Snapshot Reports released earlier today. NPD will remove the most recent data from the NPD Funworld website beginning 7:30pm EST.

NPD Games will review the reasons behind the overstated numbers immediately and will have an update to you by tomorrow, Friday 12pm EST. We are not clear when the new data will be reissued. However, we are making every effort to ensure the issue is resolved before re-releasing the Video Games Data.

We apologize for this inconvenience.

We will update this article with proper sales numbers when they are released.

Article is updated, and new numbers will be posted when they are released.

Alot more games than that Joel as noted. I'm really hoping Condemned did well.

Oh yeah...forgot about that one.

Still pretty good even if that's divided by 4.

I'll be Kameo has numbers nearly as high as CoD2 by virtue of it's presence in the kiosks, which I'm sure helped Call a lot. I know during my searches, that a lot of folks were stopped dead in their tracks walking by that...

Again, we're talking more games than four. Take a look at my first post. We don't have numbers for:

Condemned, King Kong, Ridge Racer 6, Project Gotham Racing 3, Kameo, and Perfect Dark Zero.

EDIT: By the way, Nintendo took the proverbial pie this November. The percentages for hardware sales for the month:

Nintendo: 1,552,341 - 52.06%

Sony: 905,868 - 30.38%

Microsoft: 523,441 - 17.55%

Sorry, couldn't remember all the launch games.

Oh it's all good Joel. It simply means some of those remaining 6 either sold through the roof leaving the others to languish. Or there was an equal spread. I agree that Kameo will more than likely have sold well thanks to the kiosk exposure. I do believe PGR3 could have easily broken 100k. Same for Perfect Dark. Which means that Kong, Condemned, and Ridge Racer may not have sizzled the retail channel. Though there is always the possibility that Kameo really didn't strike a chord (same for PGR3 for that matter), and one of those other three were able to take the spotlight. I'm banking on Perfect Dark having sold well on name alone, but again who's certain about anything anymore in this business? (I'd personally be happy to see Condemned break 100k though I doubt that's feasible. I'd be satisfied with 60-75k in sales for it.)

The shortages that some considered to be engineered by Microsoft are no doubt a large contributing factor in the lower than expected sell through of the console.

I think the lack of followup shipments (or the apparent sparseness of them) indicates that this was not engineered by MS but a genuine shortage of 360s.

Forget all those numbers for now...

I'm really hoping Condemned did well. If the game does not outsell absolute garbage ports like Tony Hawk and Gun I'll be forced to give up any hope I have left for the gaming community

In the UK, although I've not seen sales figures as yet, Condemned outsold every EA title and basic multi-platform port available on the 360 making it the fourth most popular title within the console's first week of being on sale (it is a week old today). Perfect Dark is at #1, PGR3 at #2, Call of Duty 2 at #3, Condemned at #4 and Need for Speed at #5.
