Miami Vice Teaser Trailer - Michael Mann

I love Michael Mann movies and was a fan of Miami Vice back in the day but I just dunno about this one. First of all I can't stand Colin Ferrel. Everytime I see him on screen I cringe. Second is the modern day setting which includes the crappy rap music in the clip. I'm sorry but to me Miami Vice just isn't Miami Vice without the 80's setting which of course includes the killer 80's music Mann had for the show. Third...did I mention I cannot stand Colin Ferrel? Being a big fan of Mann's work (Heat and The Insider are 2 of my alltime favorite movies) I have hope the movie wont suck but that trailer sure didn't do much for me. Why oh why did they cast Colin for this movie?!?!

Consider this a revisioning rather than a remake and it makes sense. If it was a remake then the 80's music and the theme would need to be there.[/quote']

Revision, remake, redo, update, modern day version of....call it what you will. The movie is called Miami Vice, has rap music and stars Colin "tough as tissue paper" Farrel. It sure as hell doesn't make sense to me. :)

I'm not liking the main characters though. Then again Crocket is a scummy character and so is Farrell.

Don Johnson + Philip Michael Thomas = major cool factor

Jamie Fox = ya he is pretty cool

Colin Farrell = Boy band material. Not a cool bone in his body.

If it's a modern day version of then it definitely makes sense. They are going with what music is cool at the time. Same goes for Miami Vice and the 1980's. You didn't expect "Tonight Tonight by Phil Collins" to be played on the trailer did you? Rap is currently "Hip" and goes with the way they are headed. Yes it makes sense.

Then again I don't hold a negative against Farrell. He doesn't feel completely right but it's a trailer so who knows. I would bet alot of your animosity towards it is based on Farrel rather than the music or the title.

You are probably right. Can ya blame me? I mean just look at his face! ;)

The trailer features such music, who's to say the final film will? That's a rather big assumption considering Mann has always been very good about his music selection. (and the fact that I've rarely seen a film that features the music from the trailer)

Ok ok I'm nit picking here. I know Mann always has a nack for choosing great music for his movies and I'm sure this will be no different. Its just that as a trailer the rap music really ruined it for me. Yes it is fair to say I can't stand rap music. I guess I just don't "get it". ;)
