Romier S
December proved to be a substantial sales month for both Nintendo and Sony. The PSP came out the winner by a small margin in the US (and in Japan recently where Nintendo is facing hardware shortages due to massive demand). Regardless, Sony must be smiling at those PSP numbers. Not to mention the Playstation 2 was still able to move 1.5 million units! An amazing number really considering we're reaching the end of its life cycle. Microsoft, on the other hand, continues to face serious 360 supply issues. The December numbers have got to be a little disappointing for Microsoft who I'm sure would love nothing more than to have enough systems on store shelves for everyone that wants to buy them. Hopefully January and February will see production ramp up, and more 360's distributed to the console buying public. Here are the numbers: PS2 - 1.5 million PSP - 1.12 million GBA - 1,213,196 GCN - 606,423 DS - 1.07 million Xbox - 415K Xbox 360 - 281,

Covak
Who is still buying PS2's!!! What the hell? I only just got one for Xmas, for Shadow Of The Colossus and Guitar Hero mainly. And then after some friends saw Guitar Hero they went out and bought a PS2, too
Josh
I had not one but two friends buy PS2s this holiday as well. They're having blasts catching up on all the $19 titles and diving into a massive library. Makes sense to me, at least. These are people who want to just walk in, buy a system, and know that they have a ton of options and affordable (not $60) games.
Big Daddy Bling Bling
The PS2 is the new SNES. Everyone should have one.

Rainmaykr
Geez. For all you who got an SNES this Christmas, check out Super Mario World, Chrono Trigger, and A Link to the Past. For all you who got a Jaguar, keep the gift receipt - unless it was given to you by your Aunt Clara, in which case you'll probably have to play it when she comes to visit. For everyone who got an original Game Boy this Christmas, get one of those magnifying glass/lamp attachments - Seriously, Nuby makes a great one. rustyjaw
And that's without a price drop. At this rate, Sony probably isn't feeling much pressure to get the PS3 out quickly.
iainl
The PSP came out the winner by a small margin in the US (and in Japan recently where Nintendo is facing hardware shortages due to massive demand). Was this you, or the NPD release? Because the numbers I have for the last week of December in Japan show 390,181 DS sales to 110,741 PSPs even after the sell-out the previous week, where the DS managed 598,000 to the PSP's 161,000. I suppose they could have been meaning the first week of January (which I've not seen figures for), but December's numbers don't paint the PSP as a winner. edit - yes, on the week to the 8th of January, the DS sold 91,379 and the PSP 132,757, ending the DS's 37-week run at the top. Sony need quite a lot more weeks to catch up December's numbers at that rate, though.

Romier S
Was this you, or the NPD release? Sony need quite a lot more weeks to catch up December's numbers at that rate, though. Only noting that specific week since it occurred due to hardware shortages on Nintendo's end strictly because of the massive demand for the DS in Japan (as I already said). The DS is still soundly king in Japan, and worldwide leading the PSP by a good margin.
