The Daisy
In the category of thank god.... Story at Evil Avatar. Other than the ear-splitting volume of the show, the booth babes were the most annoying thing to me at the show. Glen

Camp
I did some google searches and apparently, they typically display new video games at E3 too. I seem to have missed them behind all the babes. At least the show has something to fall back on though.
Mark E
Can't say that bothers me all that much, I've always thought the 'look at the booth babes' spreads from sites like IGN were a touch exploitative when it was all said and done. Maybe now, as noted, they'll actually report on the games. It'll certainly help make E3 seem less pathetic in that respect.

secretvampire
Awwww, but how will the correspondants from such fine gaming publications ever get their picture taken with a live girl again?
Big Daddy Bling Bling
Usually, I see maybe one link to a booth babe slideshow during a normal website's E3 coverage. These "maybe now they'll report on the games" comments are just BS hyperbole. Is the suggestion that the media isn't reporting on the games and you have to click through page after page of half naked women just to find some sliver of information about Halo 3? I get moderate amusement from clicking through the slideshows...it's fun to see women dressed as videogame characters. The ban won't really bother me that much since I only have a passing interest in the girls. What's more annoying is the kowtowing to political correctness that would cause such a decision to come about. However, if it was a majority of the show attendees who didn't like the booth babes rather than just a few people who complained, I can support them giving in to what the target audience wanted. No, this isn't political correctness. This is an industry tradeshow trying to sort itself out to not appear completely sexist & teenager in the wake of the Hot Coffee fiasco. Who would have thought that an industry would have a trade show that appeals to an audience of young males when the lion's share of the industry's product is sold to young males? Eldorado
Here's a question, will there still be dudes dressed as videogame characters? I don't care one way or the other, I just don't like double standards. And if the answer is yes, then a big, fat F U to whomever organizes the event. Yea no shit. Can't believe people are actually complaining about scantily clad women. Right on, man. Sean

Big Daddy Bling Bling
Ummm...maybe because the industry wants to move BEYOND only having the young male teenager demographic? Please don't confuse the wishes of one single organization with "the industry". If the industry as a whole viewed booth babes as a terrible epidemic, such rules would be unnecessary because the various game companies would self-regulate and not feature women in their booths. Romier S
Gamespot reported on this particular news earlier today, noting that these supposedly "new" regulations have been in place for years, the only new addition is a $5,000 fine meant to give these rules some teeth: http://www.gamespot.com/news/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=24247233 GameSpot contacted the ESA regarding the nascent controversy. An E3 staffer said that the rules regarding attire have always been in place and that they have long not been enforced. "People largely ignored us," said the staffer, saying that booth babes would merely relocate to other parts of the show floor when asked to dress a little more modestly. The rep said the $5,000 fine was introduced this year to add some teeth to the regulation. ..and on the subject of whether there would be no Booth Babes at E3 2006: But does that mean there won't be models hawking publishers' latest wares at E3? In a word, no. Like at virtually every other trade expo, E3 exhibitors will use attractive women to help make inroads with mostly male E3 attendees. But are they on notice not to be as risqu? as in past years? Given the still-simmering fallout from last year's "Hot Coffee" Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas sex-mini-game scandal, the answer appears to be "yes." My take? It's amusing to see the Booth Babe pics pop up online, but if they disappeared tommorrow I could care less.
Josh
My take? It's amusing to see the Booth Babe pics pop up online, but if they disappeared tommorrow I could care less. Agreed. There are plenty of other opportunities to see boobies; E3 doesn't need to be one of them.
JFo
My question is who determines what's too risqu? and what's not? They probably have to define what accounts for acceptable clothing and what isn't, sort of like the company I work for. For instance, you can't wear shorts or skirts unless they go below the knee. Is there a way to define how much cleavage is too much?
Anthony G
Is there a way to define how much cleavage is too much? Cyberwoo
Personally I've always found the whole booth babe thing pretty damn funny in a pathetic sort of way. This is only magnified by seeing all the nerds gawking at these women and clammering to get pictures with them knowing full well this may be the closest they ever get to actually touching another female. The other pathetic part about it is how game publishers use fancy booths and scantely clad "babes" (and hey lets get something straight here...most booth babes I see posted on the net are not even close to being babe material) to try and sell a shitty game. Dont get me wrong...I'm a guy and I believe that there is NOTHING more pleasing to the eye then a gorgeous woman. However when I see girls (a good chunk of whom I dont consider to be that physically attractive in the first place) dressed up as cheesy video game characters, smiling awkwardly and posing with nerds allday I just do not see the apeal in it.
