Capcom announce ‘The Streetfighter Alpha Anthology’

Recommended Posts

The collection features direct arcade conversions of StreetFighter? Alpha, Street Fighter? Alpha 2, Street Fighter? Alpha 2 Gold and Street Fighter? Alpha 3 which have never before been available together in one package. As an added bonus, the “pint-sized” Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix? (also released on consoles as Pocket Fighter?), is included which brings the total to five action packed games on one disc. Street Fighter Alpha Anthology is scheduled for release throughout North America in summer 2006.

All titles in the collection feature three core gameplay options. Arcade mode pits competitors against a series of CPU controlled opponents in order to beat the game. Versus mode allows two players to choose among the cast of characters for intense head-to-head battles. Fighters can practice special moves and combos to hone their skills in the training mode. Additionally, all four Alpha titles feature survival mode as well as a dramatic battle mode which allows 2-on-1 tagteam matches.

The Alpha series was my favorite of the SF series...if this is priced right' date=' I will buy. I wish this was coming to the Live arcade instead of the regular SF2 series.

I'd almost bet that if Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fighting does well on Live Arcade (and it will) that we will see more SF games available on Live. If it is one thing that Capcom does well it is milk their cash cows for all they are worth :D .

Such success I think is guaranteed, but I was wondering… Which would be better for Capcom? To make further Streetfighter titles available on Live Arcade or whore the Anthology onto an Xbox disc (provided it was compatible with the 360 of course)?

More on Live arcade. Not only are the arcade games more "impulse buy" friendly, but they can sell each game individually for those that don't care about all of them. For example, I don't really care about the SF alpha games (never really liked the "alpha" mechanic), but I'd probably download any of the "tag" games that they came out with (Marvel vs Capcom etc). Even those these used the alphas, I thought the tag thing was really neat, and using the marvel characters was a lot of fun. I remember playing a lot of Marvel vs Capcom 2 on a friend's Dreamcast.

Chris,

I'd love to see Marvel Vs Capcom 2 as well. Unfortunately EA owns the rights to Marvel characters now so I'm not sure if Capcom could re-release the game or not. Xbox and PS2 copies of the game are pretty hard to come by and sell pretty high on Ebay if I recall.

Anyone picked this up then? I was pleased to hear the PAL version offers 50hz, 60hz and 60hz Progressive Scan options, though I remain reluctant to buy the game until I have a good arcade stick, which I really can’t afford at the moment.

Bizarrely Capcom apparently removed the characters move list both from within the game and the manual on the Western release of the game. Some believe its removal to be a rouse to make people buy the Official Strategy Guide. Cheeky sods.

I have the game and love it! I am a huge Street Figther whore so I also picked up the Stategy Guide. The games in the collection look arcade perfect to me and the stategy guide even tells you how to play different revisions of each arcade game. Since the guide was written by tournament players, they tell you which revision is the best for each game.

Unfortunately I haven't tried to run the game in progressive scan mode, but it is nice to know that option is there if I ever need to use it. To me this game was worth every penny of the $29.99 I paid for it.

If you can track a Saturn PS2 pad down, I highly recommend it. I never was much of a joystick person. Below is a link to the pad but PlayAsia is currently sold out. I scored mine off Ebay last month:

Street Fighter was meant to be played with a joystick! :D

That said, a Saturn pad is the best 2nd choice. :D I almost picked up the SF Xbox pads at EBgames...but the guy said the d-pads suck on the xbox version.

Anyway, this is a no-sale for me, still. No online play, which means I have no one to play it with :(
