Romier S
That's right. Lego Star Wars is getting a sequel and we're going old school. Lego Star Wars is coming and apparently there is a new preview for it in the latest OXM. New features include the ability to build your own blocky vehicles and create custom characters! There are some scans running around, but I'll only post the first page so you can take a look: :rock

iainl
This is official now, then? Great. It's sounding really good; poor Jonathan had to put up with us lecturing him on every minor annoyance we had with the first game (so no repeat of the podracing bit, then). JoeyN
Is it xbox 1 only or 360 as well?
Angry the Clown
I bloody knew it! They couldn't NOT do this. I'm thrilled!
iainl
And yes. We've asked him who will be shooting first.

Dave C
At the time of the release, I picked ROTS rather than lego so I never got the chance to play the first one. Didn't it span all 6 episodes? Is it that this new release will be more comprehensive/focused on ep. 1-3 with branching stories depending upon what character you play? JFo
WetWork; The first game just covered the prequels, but I do believe that there was a bonus level that featured a scene from A New Hope.
Robot Monkey
Build your own vehicles? Now that's cool!
dogbert
At the time of the release, I picked ROTS rather than lego so I never got the chance to play the first one. Didn't it span all 6 episodes? Is it that this new release will be more comprehensive/focused on ep. 1-3 with branching stories depending upon what character you play? First off, go pick up the first Lego Star Wars - it's cheap, it's a heck of a lot of fun. Secondly, the first LSW featured the three prequels, plus one small bonus level set on the Blockade Runner at the start of A New Hope. There were no branching storylines per se, instead different character types had different routes through the levels, so to fully unlock everything, you had to play through them multiple times with different chars. Lots of fun!
AnthonyVolpe
The first one was a fun game but it was too easy. This was obviously a kids' game. Still a lot of fun though. And best of you could play as about 100 different characters. The thing is, even though some of these games are "for kids," I've seen really young kids who can play games like these far better than adults. So why not make them a bit harder? Definitely wanna play the new one though.
iainl
Sometimes I don't want games to be that hard, though. I've got plenty of shmups and stuff for when I do want a challenge. LEGO Star Wars is all about messing around. Oh, and I've been told not to ask again about who shoots first. Everyone knows that the question will get asked relentlessly from now until release, and it's going to be surprise. Which if it's anything like the cutscenes from the first one (so good I happily watched them) the answer is "something very silly indeed". Angry the Clown
Mmm, I would imagine something amusing that takes the piss out of the whole argument. The game might well end up better than the Special Edition/DVD versions. ... although will the Ewok song be in there I wonder.

bickle
Sounds like this is being made by a different developer, according to Gamespot.
Graeme
Eidos might not have anything to do with it, but that doesn't mean that Travellers Tales isn't still developing.
iainl
Eidos distributed the first one, because they had publishing rights on games based on the prequels (as the Gamespot story suggests). That doesn't affect the actual development of the game, however.
bickle
But is it likely that the developer would be able to switch publishers? Eidos may not have distribution rights for the original trilogy, but would Traveller's Tales be able to switch publishers? Or would they be locked into a contract with Eidos?
Paul
Eidos does not own Traveller's Tales as far as i know who have been published by various companies over the years. Publishing deals tend to be for certain games not for length of time. I would think Lucasarts would have them develop the sequel.

Graeme
David Perkinson from LucasArts IGN: Will LEGO Star Wars II be online? If not, why not? The two-player co-op online game would be HUGE! David Perkinson: Certainly, one of the things that we considered adding to the game was online co-op, but our research shows that only a small percentage of gamers would actually utilize such a feature. We'd rather apply the time and money that it takes to ensure a flawless online experience toward making our offline game even better, which benefits more people. Adding one new feature instead of many new features seemed like the wrong step for this game and for the gamer. Boooo!
iainl
I know everyone else around here is addicted to online gaming, but I think he's right. It's a hell of a lot of work when the game works perfectly well on a single machine. If it employed split-screen I might understand, but the game was made for two people sitting next to each other and being silly.
