Blind Squirrel
http://www.blizzard.com/jobopp/art-director.shtml The team behind Diablo I and II is looking for a talented, motivated, and experienced Art Director to help lead our art team in developing beautiful, cohesive game worlds for an unannounced PC Project and future projects. Requirements * Familiarity with standard 3D and 2D computer art applications. * At least five years previous game industry experience. * Must have shipped at least one AAA title as Art Director. * Strong illustration and concept art skills. * Ability to motivate artists and communicate well with designers in a team environment. * A passion for creating and playing games. Pluses * Experience working on RPG titles. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok, we all should have known that this has been in the works, so the question is, what will it be like? Are they going for a first-person perspective? Online is a definite, but will there be any innovations on that end? (I'd love to see a Diablo-style MMORPG). Here's another big question though: will this one be up to the same standards that Diablo II was? The original Diablo II (before it was patched into being an entirely different game) still ranks as my favorite game of all time, but Blizzard has had a lot of people leave since then. Diablo II and Starcraft, IMO, mark the highpoints for Blizzard. The only thing that we've seen from Blizzard North since Diablo II LOD, however, has been the history of patches that it's had, and I don't see that as being too promising. Is Blizzard going to put out another AAA+ title, or is it's days as the world's best over?
General Zot
Nah, I doubt they'll make Diablo III. I heard the last one didn't sell up to their expectations...
weremichael
I agree why bother making Diablo III. There aren't any fans for the series. http://cgi.ebay.com/2-GODLY-Diablo-II-USWest-Non-Ladder-Accounts_W0QQitemZ8257029503QQcategoryZ33884QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem If people will spend this kind of money on characters from the second game still to this day, why would they bother making a third game?? Robot Monkey
I'd love to see a Diablo-style MMORPG. I didn't play Diablo I or II (that I remember, anyway), so this question is out of ignorance: I heard that Guild Wars is in many ways an MMO-ized Diablo. Is that accurate? Blind Squirrel
Well, I haven't played Guild Wars, so I don't know. If it is, I might have to give it a shot.

secretvampire
I concur with Mr. Brian, what exactly are you talking about? I played the everliving shit out of both 1 and 2 (especially 2 on Battle.net) and lost many hours of my life to them. I very much look forward to losing many hours of my life to #3 when it arrives. I hope they keep it 2D, though.
Blind Squirrel
I'm talking about the fact that a lot of the key people who were responsible for Diablo and Diablo II are no longer there. There are two new developers out there (Flagship Studios and Castaway) that were started by people who left Blizzard. It's been a long time since Blizzard North has released anything, and I'm wondering whether or not the team can survive all of the departures and still be the best in the buisiness. foogledricks
Gaming Steve said that there will never be a Diablo or Starcraft MMO because even if they had the resources, the game concept, and the confidence that it would do well, it would be competing with WoW. So they're better off riding WoW's MMO success, while next installments of Diablo and Starcraft could ride their own separate wave. Makes sense. Magness
I would agree that Guild Wars is very much like a MMO version of Diablo and if I recall correctly it was developed by several members of the original Diablo team. anyway, I can't wait for a Diablo 3 and I hope they keep to the formula from the first 2 games - have a regular single player mode and a small party online mode. Romier S
Aren't the Diablo guys all busy working on Hellgate: London these days? Yep, and a lot of the key guys behind the creation of Battle.net comprise Arena Net (folks responsible for Guild Wars). I would also agree that Guild Wars is very much Diablo in an MMO-like setting. The games play very differently, but the inspiration is definitely there.
Camp
Blizzard isn't the developer for Hellgate: London, are they? Or is this another one of those "former Diablo" team members are working on Hellgate? It would shock me if it's Blizzard as it's not their style and the CGI trailer for Hellgate is no where near Blizzard's quality.
iainl
Hellgate: London is by one of the teams of ex-Blizzard folk that Blind Squirrel mentioned before; Flagship Studios.
bickle
Just check out http://www.gamingsteve.com for info. He has some close connections within Blizzard, and has lots of details. I've been listenin to his podcasts for a while, and when it comes to Blizzard info, he's spot-on.

From everything I've read, Hellgate: London is going to be very much in the sytle of Diablo.
Graeme
Is Blizzard going to put out another AAA+ title, or is it's days as the world's best over? Until I play Ghost, I have no reason whatsoever the even think that Blizzard would put out anything less than a AAA title (that will continue to sell like crazy well beyond it's years), no matter who is making it. I guess it would make sense for sales to have it on Xbox/PS2, but at this point it seems like if they don't release it this year, they may miss the hardcore who will have moved on slightly. A friend of mine said he's buy any blizzard game, even if it was released for the NES right now.
bendak
A friend of mine said he's buy any blizzard game' date=' even if it was released for the NES right now.[/quote'] They could release it on the Panasonic 3DO and I'd buy it. Blizzard games have taken the largest percentage of my gaming time. Warcraft 2, Diablo, Starcraft, Diablo 2, Warcraft 3, and now World of Warcraft. That's one thing blizz is good at, getting you to play their games over and over and over and over and over again. Throughout college all I did was play Diablo 2 over the dorm's network. And now WOW has me addicted. But I must admit I am somewhat concerned about Ghost. It just seems like its been in development forever (even for Blizzard). I have no reason to lose faith yet. I have no reason to lose faith yet.I have no history of liking Blizzard games. Didn't like Diablo that much, and never played any of the Craft series until WoW. But my impression of Ghost was that it looks a bit me-too and nothing special. I'm still interested in it, but I don't have as much faith in it as many here do. Camp
Didn't like Diablo that much Thank you. I'm not the only one. Diablo is one of those games that, when you say "I didn't much care for it", people go nuts defending it as a sacred artifact in gaming history. iainl
I don't like it much either, but then I hate RPGs. Level-grinding and all that bores me, and the whole thing just seemed to be Nethack with graphics anyway. But this is rather as a side-thing. Everyone that likes it is quite welcome to do so. foogledricks
But this is rather as a side-thing. Everyone that likes it is quite welcome to do so.Speak for yourself. They are just wrong. Diablo teh sucks. Actually, I never played Diablo II, but I imagine it was more of the same. I loved gauntlet back in the day, and Diablo seemed to be gauntlet with a deeper story/gameplay and mouse/keyboard control. It just didn't click for me. Later though I played Baldur's Gate:DA and enjoyed that greatly So maybe I would enjoy Diablo now if I played it Though i still like the controller versus the mouse

I hope I didn't come off as if I was waiting in prey to jump in the thread to trash the game. Not my intent at all.

IIRC, it started out being developed by Nihilistic, but Blizzard ultimately scrapped that version of it and the game was handed over to Swinging Ape, who was then bought by Blizzard.
