Rainmaykr
A friend is using a SSP 2.0 for all his video sitching needs. Problem is when the DVD player is outputting a bright scene at 480p the image loses stability, most notably in the upper quarter of the screen. I've changed out cables, switched to optical audio (to eliminate any signal bleeding via coax digital audio), changed inputs and isolated the switcher in the cabinet. Nothing. It only happens when there is a bright scene, like the opening action sequence of Legend of Zorro. That sequence wreaked havoc. If I switched off progressive output, the screen would stabilize. Switched it back on and it would immediately start waving and blinking and finally going to black screen before coming back on again. The problem could even be paused - A bright scene that caused the instability could be paused and it would retain the artifact on the static image. As far as I can tell, it doesn't happen over 1080i signal. I can't be certain of 720p as I didn't have a 720p source with bright scenes to test. Any ideas whatsoever? Thanks. Rainmaykr
Yeah, when it runs directly to the TV it works fine. I isolated the switchbox by moving it far away from the devices that was stacked on top of it thinking it may be some sort of funky interference. It's odd that it would pass signals that chew through more bandwidth fine but falters on the 480p stuff. I'm thinking that a switch of the switch is in order. GreenMonkey
There were some reports over on avsforum of the same problem with some HD signals on the Pro 2.0. FYI
JoeyN
Sometimes a switcher is bad. Phils original Pelican had a problem where it would mess up the signal so the colors looked different
Rainmaykr
There were some reports over on avsforum of the same problem with some HD signals on the Pro 2.0. FYI Thanks for the heads up. I checked out what I could (AVSForum's search feature sucks cat's ass) and it appears this is a pretty common problem. Ima call Pelican/Score and see what they say. Otherwise going to see into something like this.
Rainmaykr
UPDATE: Seems this switchbox is monkeying with the contrast. It's not a lot, but enough to throw off calibrations and apparently v-sync stability on some displays. That's bu hao.
Rainmaykr
RESOLUTION: Last night we swapped out the Score / Pelican System Selector Pro 2.0 for a Joytech Control Center 240C and the problem was eliminated. The display no longer has problems with bright scenes in 480p mode. Another thing of note, the 240C is considerably more hefty - for anyone who cares about such things. The remote and the cables are throw-aways, but the unit itself is quite impressive.
