Which GBA games are worth getting?

Recommended Posts

I don't have it yet, but I understand WarioWare is lot of fun (lots of minigames). Boktai seemed to get some good buzz. Oh, you might like Rainbow Six (an older title). I liked it but got fed up with my GBA's lighting problems and constantly referring to my cheat sheet of commands.

It's weird; I was thinking about upgrading my GBA to a GBA SP but now I realize that I can practically purchase a GameCube for the money!

Take note that some of these aren't "new", but this is pretty much my definitive list of worth-a-look GBA games. This is mostly off the top of my head, so I might edit/update it later if I realize I've forgotten something.

GBA games that I've played and find quite enjoyable:

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon

Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance

Wario Land 4 (the other portable Wario Land platformers are also quite good)

Advance Wars 1 & 2

Pok?mon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire

Golden Sun

Metroid Fusion

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 (surprisingly so, the other THPS GBA games have gotten good reviews as well but I haven't played them yet)

Warioware, Inc. (gaming on crack)

Kuru Kuru Kururin (overlooked addictive action that never got a US release, but there's no region-lock on the GBA ;))

Games that have gotten good reviews, but I have yet to play :(:

Lunar Legend

The Pinball of the Dead

Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand

Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land

Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars

F-Zero: Maximum Velocity

Mega Man Zero

Megaman & Bass

Sonic Advance

Sonic Advance 2

Rayman Advance

Rayman 3

Golden Sun: The Lost Age

Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis (considering how much I'm enjoying Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, I should pick this one up)

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow

Mario Kart Super Circuit

Ninja Five-O

Klonoa: Empire of Dreams

Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge

If you're into SNES games or ports, or if you missed out on some of these when they first came out, you might like them on the GBA:

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3

Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2

Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts (if you like hard games)

Donkey Kong Country

Final Fight One (relatively short, however)

Super Dodge Ball Advance

Breath of Fire and Breath of Fire II (if these are your kind of RPG's you'll enjoy the ports...I could just never "get into them")

Contra Advance: The Alien Wars EX

The Lost Vikings

Earthworm Jim

Upcoming GBA games to keep an eye on:

Metal Slug Advance (mmmmmm, yes)

Sword of Mana

The aforementioned Super Mario Advance 4

CT Special Forces 1 & 2 (could turn out well)

Mega Man Zero 2

Fire Emblem

Mario & Luigi (from the previews it seems to be shaping up to be good)

Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town (if you're into that ;))

R-Type III

Mario Golf Advance

River City Ransom EX (!!!)

So, uh, yeah. Hopefully that will keep you busy for a while. :green:

SWEET! :green:

Really, could be a killer GBA game. Mario Golf looks good too, Tiger Woods might lose out on two consoles for me...

I thought there was supposed to be a MotoGP2 or the GBA...I recall it getting great previews, did it ever materialize?

IMO, if you have Pokemon Pinball (and you should!), you probably won't like Pinball of the Dead too much, the Pokemon one is a better pinball game.

And Virtua Tennis is fun on the GBA
