Romier S
The portable systems are finally getting some orginal Star Wars content and not a port ala Battlefield. Both systems will be getting Star Wars Lethal Alliance which will be an action/adventure title according to LucasArts/Ubisoft. Gamespot has an interview with the games Senior Producer and I've posted some screenshots of the PSP version below: http://www.gamespot.com/psp/action/starwarslethalalliance/news.html?sid=6155913 GS: What's the game's premise, and when does it take place with relation to the movies? BH: The game takes place just a few months before Episode IV. You will play a Twi'lek mercenary named Rianna Saren. The game marks her first appearance in the Star Wars universe. Early in the game, she is recruited by the alliance to infiltrate Empire-controlled planets and ultimately steal the plans of the Empire's most powerful weapon: the Death Star. I suggest gamers watch the beginning of Episode IV again to understand the link between this game and the saga. GS: Did LucasFilm provide direction for the fiction you're creating, or have you had free reign to craft the game however you want? BH: We have worked very closely with LucasArts to define the game and the story. They have been excellent collaborative partners, and have also given us the freedom to implement the game mechanics we wanted to develop. Of course, we needed to be respectful of the universe, as Star Wars is even more complex than what we have seen in the movies. GS: So what kind of game is this, anyway? Tell us about the core gameplay. BH: The game will be full of action and the experience is all about the collaboration between you (the agile and weapon-equipped Twi'lek mercenary) and your security droid Zeeo. Only by working together will you be able to defeat your enemies, access secret places, and, finally, complete your missions. Angry the Clown
That looks very nice. Any use of the Imperial Shuttle in anything Star Wars related always makes me smile.
Rainmaykr
It'd be neat to play a Bothan in a stealth game, a la Splinter Cell, as the means of stealing said plans. But a Twi'lek mercenary? Wouldn't those phallic growths coming out of the noggin' impede the whole action espionage thing a bit? It's all fun and games until those bags of flesh hanging from your dome catch an errant blaster bolt.
Romier S
By the way, this game is a bit unique in that Ubisoft has signed a long term licensing deal with LucasArts. Ubisoft Montreal is actually doing the development duties on the PSP version of the game while Casablanca Studios is handling the DS version. Mark E
Early in the game, she is recruited by the alliance to infiltrate Empire-controlled planets and ultimately steal the plans of the Empire's most powerful weapon: the Death Star. Remember when Kyle Katarn did this first? Oh, and has Casablanca Studios done anything I should be aware of? I don't recognize the name at all... Romier S
Casablanca has aided in the production of several Ubisoft titles. Most notably, they handled preproduction on Prince of Persia The Two Thrones. Core Casablanca members were then moved over to Montreal to help completion of the game. Brandon H
Remember when Kyle Katarn did this first? I was just about to say that. As a Star Wars geek I hope they reconcile the two stories somehow...I doubt it. All the same, it's promising that Ubi Montreal is handling this one, at least for PSP.
