reeldeal
I've got the my modem directly connected to a linksys BEW11SW wireless router and that is directly connected to my xbox. My upload is capped at like something ridiculous 56k i believe, the downsteam is measured by the xbox dashboard at around 3000k. I get 20/20 on packets and have low pings ~35 I've had no problems playing football and i never really got into ghost recon online but the little i did play it i had no problems. now with rtcw i can't play on a server for more than 2 rounds. even if it's ruffneck or captds9e's games (in which there are many ppl sticking around for multiple games) after two or three games i'll time out. Does anyone have any suggestions on potential remedies of this problem? i'm on cable and am seriously contemplating moving to ADSL because this is extremely annoying tia, mark
JoeyN
Mark i think its the router. I just got the same wireless router and i have problems hosting games with more then 8 people. On ghost recon i used to host a full game. Im seriously considering hooking up my old router directly to my modem and then linking my wireless router after the regular router so i can get my good connection back, Im going to try it out wed morning since i wont be home the next two days capt
kelley
We have that router in my house, but the Xbox doesn't go through it....Have you installed the Firmware upgrade that ups the UDP speeds in it? If not that could be most of your problem right there. Also 56k up is not good for Xbox Live, MS "requires" a minimum of 128k upload. JoeyN
Yeah i updated the firmware yesterday. Kelly what did you do to not make it go through the router? use a spliter? capt
reeldeal
i'll call my internet provider and bitch at them about my upload speed, see what they can do. if not i bet the other ISP in town would be more than willing to give me a deal if i switch to them. kelley
Yeah i updated the firmware yesterday. Kelly what did you do to not make it go through the router? use a spliter? capt We get 3 public IPs from my ISP. I have a switch right off the DSL Modem, from the switch i have a 50ft piece of ethernet that goes into a Netgear Router and then the Xbox plugs into that. reeldeal
hmm...my computer measured upload is around 300k, and the computer is connected via a wireless PCI Card, there's no way the xbox would be any slower since it's wired directly to the router. any ideas? Buck
any ideas? Don't pay any attention to what the Dashboard tells you. It doesn't do a great job handling packets to give you an idea of what your speeds truly are. Go to a site like DSL Reports with your PC to get an idea what your speeds are. But those only measure TCP/IP. Xbox Live uses UDP.
Buck
But those only measure TCP/IP. Xbox Live uses UDP. True, which is a more efficient protocol than TCP/IP. I've had times when the Dashboard has told me that my upload was something like 800Kb and others times 18Kb. I haven't tried it lately so I don't know if they may have fixed the application in one of the patches Either way, for the time being I stick by my first statement Don't pay any attention to what the Dashboard tells you
reeldeal
but doesn't an upload of 300kb/sec seem acceptable? i don't get why else my connection in RTCW sucks so hard...it's not possible that the modem in my xbox is the culprit? i can try my brothers xbox out next time he's in town i guess
JoeyN
After checking stuff out. It just seems that Wolfenstein needs a lot more bandwith then Ghost recon. Thats why i can host at max 9 players before the lag hits. Kind of pisses me off capt
