General Zot
For fun, let's have a thread where people who successfully got a PS3 today can gloat. I did NOT get one, but I'd like to hear the battle stories of those that did. Have at it gents!
Dave C
No battle stories here. Some what uneventful except for the people in the store coming up to me asking when I ordered it. However, I was tempted to ask for an armed escort.
PoisonJam
I'd be curious to see if any of the few who managed to score a system are actually planning on keeping it?
Bruce B
My wife just called me. Its in the back of her SUV on the way to Fedex. She said "dont you even want to see the box"?(the PS3 box you dirty bastards). I said "no, I think its better this way":p
Angry the Clown
So given there are so few of us here who actually own a PS2, I'm interested whether anyone here with the PS3 are coming from having also owned its predecessor and if not, what about the PS3 is appealing to them more than anything about the PS2? SCREWNUT
Hey I own a PS2 and the previous PSone and I would like to think that maybe someday (perhaps when PS4 gets released) that I will be able to afford a PS3!

Same here (I own the original PSX and PS2, and I plan to pick up a silver slimline before Christmas). I'll be picking up a PS3 when they're available at retail in quantity, and a few of the technical kinks have been ironed out.
Tonner Cyn
I had family obligations last night so I could not get into a line even if my wife let me . I did think about stopping at some places this morning, but didn't. A couple of Targets and Wal-Marts I pass on the way to work had pretty short lines, but I'm guessing they also had small allocations. Best Buy, on the other hand, probably had more people in line than they could accomodate.
Romier S
I own and love my Playstation 2. I'm without a doubt buying a Playstation 3 but have held off at launch do the amount of games both released and coming for Playstation 2 and the Xbox 360 (same goes for the Wii). After going through 3 Xbox 360's, I'm quite satisfied to sit out the initial hardware issues as Pixel mentioned. Not that it's much of a suprise, but what's the appeal of the PS3? Continued franchises like Devil May Cry and Metal Gear Solid and original titles like Heavenly Sword (and hopefully a good deal more). Sony's own version of Microsoft's Live Arcade also looks pretty interesting with some nice titles I'm definitely looking forward to playing.:tu

Bruce B
My wife did reminded me that I had paid for in advance "Resistance" and she also picked that up. Will make a nice coaster.
Dolemite
I got mine this morning after putting $50 down at an FYE in November of last year. They had security/police to escort individuals to their cars through the mall because people had attempted to jump 3 different people earlier in the morning. I found it ironic that the FYE got 30 units, but that the Sony store in the same mall only had 13. 3,000 people were mobbed outside the mall last night trying to get to the Sony store when the mall opened and police had to be called in and they had to use pepper spray on some people who wouldn't cooperate. As far as keeping it, I'm currently still undecided because I still have plenty of 360 games to keep me busy over the next few months. Take-Two recently announced that they're working on 20 PS3 titles*, with roughly half of these expected in the first half of 2007 (*some of these are multi-platform). Games aside, I like some of the multimedia functions, and having BR movie playback doesn't hurt (despite criticisms to the contrary. Nothing a firmware update can't fix, right? ). I realize that some folks have been unlucky with Sony hardware, but having never experienced such with either the PSX or PS2, I suppose that I'm more forgiving in my perception of them than others. I just want to hear some opinions on Resistance
dogbert
BestBuy wouldn't sell Resistance to our assistant producer last night (they claimed today was its hard street date), that's why he ended up with Ridge Racer.
Calvin
So,outside of Wally (Dolemite) who might not keep his PS3,so far no one has gotten one? That is somewhat surprising... ...though not as surprising as my daughter bringing me the back of the latest Wally World flyer & asking for both the Wii & the PS3 for Christmas.I about had a coronary. :eek

Romier S
Oh a few have gotten them, they just don't plan to keep the Playstation 3. Which is ashame as I would have loved to hear some impressions of the system, Resistance etc. Especially the 40 player online matches. I do believe James (Mr. James) is waiting on his preorder. Calvin
Okay,I meant to say that no one has gotten one to keep & play,then...
Josh
I would have if one were available. I don't do lines, though. Like the 360, I'll get one when I can.
davedbc
Well I was 1st on the list for preorders at my local EB (where I also worked for 8 years) - but since the current store manager (a guy I had originally hired) "asked" if I could / would wait until the second shipment, I agreed to do so. Of course by "asked" he gave me a $50 gift card - so that's a little something. Also - he rec'd an email from corporate that the 2nd shipment (which he also assures me I'll get one of even if that shipment amounts to 2 units) - will be shipping next Wednesday and available for pick up on Saturday. Apparantly, corporate doesn't want to deal with a double whammy of PS3's and Black Frdiay combined, and I for one am just fine with that since I really have no intention on being anywhere near a mall on Black Friday. I'm not exactly looking forward to dealing with it on Saturday - but such is life. In any event, at this point I do actually plan on keeping it -but depending on where the median price point on Ebay is - it may end up financing a second unit alongside a decent HDTV to play it on. While I was out today (it's on my way home anyway) I did grab Logitech's version of the sixaxis - since it looks very similar to the wireless controller they had for the PS2 which I preferred over the traditional dual shock. Basically I wanted to be sure I had an extra controller available when I do get the system but at this point, it'll stay in the package until I unbox a PS3 as well. Paul
I will pick up a PS3 when I can walk in a store and find one. I was in Best Buy tonight and a buddy who works there told me they sold 7 games total to go along with their allotment of 26 units. That is ridiculous. Whooter
Yeah, it's pretty surprising. They may sell them all, but I don't know if you can consider this a "successful" launch...
