Take Two/Rockstar just announced Manhunt 2 for the PS2, PSP & Wii...

New York, NY - February 6, 2007 - Rockstar Games, the world-renowned publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), is proud to announce Manhunt 2 for the PlayStation 2 system, PSP system, and Nintendo's Wii™. Manhunt 2 is the debut title from the newly formed Rockstar London studio, which is developing the game in conjunction with series creator Rockstar North. The Wii™ version is being developed by Rockstar Toronto. Manhunt 2 will be available this summer.

"With Manhunt 2 we have tried to create a game that stays close to the original concept of chilling suspense and stealth, whilst pushing the game design and storytelling forward," said Sam Houser, founder and executive producer of Rockstar Games. "We are also excited to have our newest development team, Rockstar London, working on the title alongside our two established UK studios, Rockstar North and Leeds."

Should be interesting on the Wii... This was rumoured to be in development at Rockstar North (and then cancelled while they focused on GTA4) a while back & then rumoured at the ill-fated Rockstar Vienna.

I have to admit that I found the original Manhunt to cross my personal line of good taste -- and it usually takes a lot to do that. I probably won't be in for the sequel.

I agree on the good taste bit, but I'll still be up for the sequel. Sometimes bad taste is good. ;)

Wow. Wii-mote strangulation confirmed.

No kidding.

Odd choice for the wii indeed. Not exactly a family friendly title.

Makes you wonder how creative they will get with new wario ware inspired wiimote positions:

"The Stab"

"The Slice"

"The Strangle"

"The Spike"

"The Hammer"

Understandable really and completely fair Brandon. I was suprised Manhunt didn't get far more attention from the mainstream media. It's by far one of the most gratuitously violent games on the market. Unabashedly so and far worse than any GTA or Saint's Row out there.

(wouldn't mind resurrecting this excellent thread on the subject: Where do we draw the line? A discussion on videogame violence.)

That having been said, I rather liked it in a sick and twisted sense. It has a terribly macabre atmosphere and it will be interesting to see what they do with the sequel. The Wii certainly opens up some really nasty possibilities.

I ended up really liking Manhunt as well. That guy that did the voice of...Strayker???....in the game, REALLY helped sell the atmosphere. His voice acting was spot on for that character, if you ask me.

Only thing that pissed me off about this game was me getting to damn near the end, and having the game lock up repeatedly right before I was to go up and get that guy filming all this shit.

Oh yeah...PIGGSY!!! Man, talk about some tense gaming! :) I don't know why but that part where you had to go up against Piggsy just had me on the edge of my seat.

Did the game end with you killing the main guy? If so, kind of a shame since I'd really love to see him somehow reprise his role as "the voice" in the second one.

I'd hope so since that was the brilliant Brian Cox at work. You've more than likely seen him in the likes of Deadwood, X2, and the original Manhunt film as Hannibal Lecter (which was remade as Red Dragon).
