rustyjaw
As some of you know, I have a severe problem with 'art toys' or 'urban vinyl'. I searched and found my first thread on the topic from 3 years ago (incidentally, Josh, I just saw your post in there from last month...you can send this thread to your friend). Oddly, I could not find the second thread, which was about 1.5 years ago when my company last moved. Well we moved again, the 4th move in 5 years. It's taken me nearly 2 weeks to get my collection set up again. I put up all the shelves, and removed all of the 2" figures from the frames to dust them (both the frames and figures), and also so I could rearrange all of them...I was getting kind of tired of seeing the same sets together. In the meantime I also started to bring some of my collection home, now that I have room for them...so first I'll start with the stuff I brought home, and then the new work display. ----------- Home ----------- Work
rustyjaw
...continued Yes, that's an upside down, red Christmas tree hanging from the ceiling back there.
Angry the Clown
Good grief. That’s wonderful. I could sit here all day picking out the ones I’d love to have. Guess I could start with saying that I want that Bender face. In the third from last image, who are those fellows on the left? Two have sticks with eyeballs on the end, and there’s one stood between them with a red head shaped like a light bulb.
Josh
So is this how one keeps from getting fired? I mean, I'd hate to be the one to tell you to pack your shit up. Nice work there, Ed.
rustyjaw
The guys with the eyeballs are called "Monstroopers" (there are a couple more in the 3rd shot down too) and the Red guy is called "Janitor" both designed by your fellow countryman Pete Fowler, part of his "Monsterism" series. The bender mask, yeah I wore it to this past Halloween's street party in San Francisco, and literally dozens and dozens of people were yelling "BENDER!" at me the whole night! I had worn it 2 years ago, and probably 15 people did so then...so I'd guess that Bender is far more popular now than ever.

Fantastic. You prompted me to visit Fowler's delightful website (http://www.monsterism.net for all reading) which I've fallen in love with. I can see how you can come to invest so much in these sorts of toys. I dare not even call them toys. I think they're fascinating and so inventive. I'd love to start a collection myself someday. Who are the egg shaped characters you have scattered about the place?
dogbert
Thanks for the update, wonderful pics. I mean, I'd hate to be the one to tell you to pack your shit up. Hmmm, the company keeps moving office? ... I think they're trying to tell you something, Ed
rustyjaw
The eggs are just another shape for "Qee" figures, which are the predominant kind of figure I collect (courtesy of Qeester). The other shapes are: bears (with the big round ears) cats (pointed ears) dogs (floppy ears) toyers (skull head) monkey (small round ears on sides of head) knuckle bear (big head, big hands with dragging knuckles) and "Fang wolf" which looks like Sonic the Hedgehog. If you look at the first pic in the "continued" post, along the top are most of the other shapes, except the knuckle bear and toyer (last pic, center is a toyer). Angry the Clown
I’ll keep an eye out for those. There are a couple of shops hidden down side streets in London that sell a lot of Qee and other vinyl figures. I still have a particular fondness for the James Jarvis designs, though I never did get round to finding a King Ken figure. I've no idea if they're still part of his range. Josh
Thanks for the update, wonderful pics. Hmmm, the company keeps moving office? ... I think they're trying to tell you something, Ed I donno... he does have a pretty nice corner there. I don't think they're letting him go any time soon. rustyjaw
I like the elephant doctor smoking. Classic. That's "Dr. Bomb" by SF artist Frank Kozik. He's crazy. Oh man, I need to pick up some of those Fowler figures. I discovered him through the Super Furry Animals and he rocks! In the reverse of your experience, I found his figures first, and later discovered he did the SFA artwork. I met him at Comic-Con a couple years ago, he's just as quirky as you'd expect...but very friendly, totally non-pretentious.
