foogledricks
Here is an interview with the developer of this game. As you can see below, they're stripping out a bunch of stuff for the next-gen versions. They're obviously just artificially ripping out features so that they can have an excuse to charge you another $60 next year for those features again. I think everyone should boycott this developer and Konami because they are once again proving they're just in this to bend us over the table. Oh wait, I don't think that at all. But I know a bunch of people here (you know who you are) chalk next-gen versions of games with fewer features as a dick business move and not a development reality. Do you all think that about this game, or are you giving it a pass because Konami isn't EA? Have at it. http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3157110 TZ:Okay, there are 32 stadiums on PS2, only eight on 360. The editing of team names, and player's physical characteristics isn't available on next-gen. And there's no way to save my wonder-stunner goals. That's some serious strippage. Instead of asking why, can you promise me that not only will I be able to save my best goals in the 2008 version of the game, but that I'll be able to put them online for other people to ogle? CF:What I can promise is that the current 360 version is our first step into the next-generation. Think of it as the first stone in our next-generation foundation. Now that we've accomplished bringing the award-winning soccer gameplay to the next-generation, we have the best base on which to make the game bigger and better every year. Oh, and in case I wasn't clear, my opinion on this matter is that it's friggin hard to develop a game on a completely new platform like the PS3 and 360, and that cuts down on the time available to add all the features, content, and functionality that they could put in on the PS2 (for example) because they've been evolving that code base for years. At least, that is how I see it.

I heard the harsh words Romier had for you when you mentioned this opinion on the gone-but-not-forgotten podcast. I can see the point of those who think that it's just a 'dick business move', but I can't overlook the realities of producing software on a deadline. dogbert
Oh Konami have been quite clear that this 360 release is total stop-gap ahead of the 'real' next-gen version on the 360 & PS3 for next Christmas. There was a minor fuss a while back when Microsoft (incorrectly) claimed they had the next-gen exclusive on football from Konami & EA when in fact, Konami had not planned to release for PS3 anyway. Angry the Clown
It's a good game (known as Pro Evolution 6 in the UK), though feels like what it is... a stop gap as Brian states. Some people here really knocked Konami for the slow online play however last year, and even the central game was considered somewhat a disappointment especially due to its lack of ability to let you edit teams, with most rating the PS2 version to be the best. I think some kind of patch was issued to fix some problems on the UK version (which is presumably there by default in the US release), but it was still well regarded and sold very well despite the flaws. In the end after I saw it for myself it looked to me like a decent effort with Konami trying to find their feet in introducing online play to the Pro Evo series and developing for the 360. I'd still have bought it last year had I owned a 360.
