Night at the Museum dated for the 24th of April. The Blu Ray version seemingly, *sigh*, drops the following 2-disc DVD extras (which streets the same day):

  • Deleted and extended scenes with optional commentary by Director, Shawn Levy
  • Alternate opening scene
  • Blooper Reel
  • Directing 101
  • Bringing the Museum to Life Featurette
  • Acting With Nothing Featurette
  • Monkey Business Featurette
  • Building the Museum
  • Historical Threads: the Costumes of Night At the Museum
  • Storyboard Comparison with Introduction by Shawn Levy
  • Making of Night At The Museum Featurette

Instead the BD version will feature only the two commentaries, and a Trivia track.

I gave The Prestige a spin last night as soon as I got home. Oh boy is the picture insanely gorgeous. I'm no expert when it comes to HD content but it's easily one of the most impressive films I've seen in HD. The picture quality is utterly vivid with colors and clarity that just popped right off of my Samsung DLP's screen. If Disney continues to produce HD releases like this, Blu-Ray owners are in for an utter treat in the years to come (more specifically in May when the Pirates of the Carribean films are finally released).

The film itself is also DAMN good. I've seen several in this thread mention that they prefer The Illusionist over this film and I find myself not so much agreeing with that. Both films have very different purposes in the end, but The Prestiges' stronger focus on magic and more personal rivalry pushed it a bit forward for me. I'd still love to have The Illusionist on HD regardless. Both films are worthy of being viewed and enjoyed and I'd buy it in high definition in a heartbeat.

I really rate Nolan and Wally Pfister for continuing to favour shooting anamorphic and not do a digital intermediate. Although I saw a print of the Prestige on Monday night many months after it actually hit cinemas here, it was a beautiful print and I knew watching it then that it would take a fool to mess up in HD. I left the cinema totally envious of all of those who'll be able to get the Blu Ray disc, or the European HD DVD.

Prestiege, Vertical Limit (BR's) and Babel(HDDVD) just arrived. Will watch Prestiege after dinner

I am starting to feel like Joey with my backlog. Sick kids is really putting the hurt on my Blu-Ray watching. I now have The Prestige, The Departed, Gridiron Gang, Kingdom of Heaven, The Descent (got off ebay for $18), Superman Returns, M:I3, and Lord of War to watch.

I have a back log that will last into '08, and thats not counting movies phil has bought

I think I have you guys beat. In a short time I've managed to pick up 72 HD-DVD/BD titles but have only watched 8 of them. Too much video games/Tivo/netflix, etc etc etc.

Didn't we touch on this the other week? I applauded Sony for having the guts to release a title like that and start broadening the types of films they release to Blu Ray.... then I sulked over the fact the subtitles will be positioned in the wrong place.

A Scanner Darkly and Dog Day Afternoon on HD DVD and Blu-ray on April 10th.

Worth noting that Futurshop had predicted the coming of these two at the time when they threw the Matrix HD DVDs on their site. So if they were right about these two, then?

A Scanner Darkly is going to be AMAZING on HD-DVD if the 720p trailer on XBL Marketplace is any indication!

Can't wait. I'm actually looking forward to this release more than any other as it was my favorite film of 2006.

This is about the closest thing we've gotten to 2D Animation, correct?

I'd be excited if I had a BR player, I did see Volver in the theater and loved it, so I don't need to see it right now. I'm waiting for BR player prices to drop. Happy with HD-DVD for now.

I'm looking forward to seeing it again, I saw it when it came out and was put-off by the meandering of the plot and dialog, but I think a second viewing would be good since I still liked much of it.
