Slow News Day: EA Announces NCAA Football 08

NCAA Football 08 details and cover guy to be announced March 2nd

They must really be desperate for news. Was there ever really any doubt they were making this game? I think Gamespot may have worded this headline wrong, and it's just an announcment by EA of the cover athlete.

Personally, I thought NCAA Football 07 for the 360 was one of the greatest disappointments in gaming I've had in the series history. What the 360 version won in graphics it lost in gameplay to the "then gen" versions in the PS2 and XBox. This may mark the first time I won't be getting this game on opening day, like I've religiously done for the past seven years.

The demo for NCAA 08 is on Live now. I must say I'm very pleased with it after playing one game. Say what you want about framerates, but 60 FPS makes all the difference in the world. The game felt very choppy last year running at 30 FPS and is very smooth this year. The graphics also got a boost in the AA department as a lot of the jaggies around players have been eliminated.

I'll wait for some reviews of the final product but I think EA may have finally done something right with one of their sports games!

It's still choppy for me. I was getting quite a few framedrops while playing. The game did nothing otherwise for me. Really MEH.

Game looks great. Only choppiness I saw was between plays. During plays it was seamless. If I were a college football fan, I would be all over this like Dean on George Michael!

Agreed, this is a huge improvement and by far EA's best next gen sports effort. There are still a few minor kinks, but I think by Madden 09 they'll have caught up to NFL2K5.

Looks great. Love the smooth framerate.

Thumbs up to the new running scheme, the multiple defensive options, expanded playbooks, smarter dbs, harder field goals, new animations.

Thumbs down to seemingly slow runningbacks (yea, that USC back should easily break away when he's out in the open), not being able to lob a pass over a receiver (hopefully it's ok in the final version, and the new play calling screen (slows me down).

Indeed, especially policing saves that show up on 360gamesaves.com, but these guys are tenacious:) They claim they'll have some up and ready to go on release. One thing Fairdale Kings noted is that you'll need to rename the file once it's loaded so you are sure to keep yourself in the clear.
