weremichael
Awhile ago I was waiting for one of our gaming nights to start and was looking through friends' gamer scores/mottoes and I discovered that the folks on my friends list were not "preferred player" until I posted positive feedback. This made me think about the whole feedback system in general. Thanks to K-Fed's post, I listened to the OXM podcast about what it takes to get booted from Live. The podcast assured me that Microsoft wants Live to be primarily a self regulating system (a smart move on their part). It boils down to this: When enough people choose not to play with you, you won't have anyone to play with. It is a simple enough idea that reminds me of the "playground rules" when I was a kid. It worked really well then and I really think it can work now with Live. I personally use the feature (negative and positive) on a regular basis. Even before I learned about the way the system works, I never gave negative feedback in hopes of it being punitive. I could care less if some jerk gets banned or not; I just don't want to game with them. I now throw out a bunch of preferred feedback to good gamers in assumption that the Live database is robust enough to clump us good gamers together. The thing is that I bet the majority of gamers don't use the system and I'm sure that a surprising large population of the live community don't even know it exists. It has to be that way because there are too many wankers with five untarnished gold stars "jumping in" to games. So I am wondering do you use the system? Do you not even care because you'll only game with your friends? Do you want something more Draconian? Even if the majority of users gave feedback do you think it would work as intended? GunnerX
I have only played games online with people on my Friends list. So the system doesn't really matter to me.
GreenMonkey
I've only marked people as bad. Haven't marked anyone as good. You can do that?
Brandon H
I regularly mark people as good or bad, especially the latter. Of course, most of the time, I'm gaming with folks on my friends list, who I routinely mark as preferred players. But I do still play poker online once or twice a week, and routinely get stuck in a game with an asshat, in which case I have no issue giving them negative feedback. I don't report them, I just mark them as an avoided player. I don't think I've ever been paired with one of them again after that. I do want the system to work as it's intended, and I figure the more people I provide feedback on, the better it will work.
boogieman
Half the fun i get from playing Halo 2 is giving the asshats bad feedback.
JoeyN
I give good and bad feedback all the time. 95% of the time I play with people from the forum, but I do hop online early during the week and play PGR3 or a round of GOW sometimes, and get stuck with some idiots. Cyberwoo
I kind of look at the feedback system like voting. You shouldn't bitch about an elected official if you didn't cast a vote. Similarly you shouldn't be cursing out asshats if you don't use the feedback system. Ya I know it seems like it doesn't make a difference but it is there and should be used for both good and bad feedback. I will say it is much easier to forget to give someone possitive feedback then it is to give an asshat bad feedback. We all expect a possitive experience and kind of take the types of players that make that possible for granted. On the other hand we are quick to curse out asshats and give them bad feedback in a heartbeat. The feedback system is interesting. I viewed my reputation one time and noticed I was 90% preferred and 10% avoided. The 2 things listed in the avoided category for me were language and game behavior. Unfortunately if you dominate some little kid he can give you "bad" feedback calling it a game behavior issue. I know its lame but it is the only thing I can think someone would accuse me when it comes to that issue. The language thing I've really tried to work on. Thank goodness for the mute button. GOW brings out the absolute worst language in me.
Brandon H
I've been stuck on 93% positive feedback and 7% negative feedback forever, with 100% of the complainers reporting me for "aggressive behavior." I have to think it's just not being updated, as it seems strange that of all the people I've played with, exactly 7% have always hated me for the same reason. Of course, I play mostly with LCVG'ers, so I'm not playing with that many new people, but I drop into enough random poker games that the numbers should have changed by now. Anthony G
Well I posted my first negative feedback during GOW last night. A piece of shit, unwashed leper joined in on one of our matches and started team killing us on purpose. :furious Somehow this piece of garbage has five full stars, go figure. Dave knows what I'm talking about, I thing he even sent him a message. I sacrificed a chicken afterwards to the red-ring-of-death gods on his behalf. Cyberwoo
Well I posted my first negative feedback during GOW last night. First!? You either a) dont play much in public rooms or it takes ALOT to piss you off. I used to give negative feedback all the time. Used to... Ya I've seen tons of asshats with 5 star ratings and the only thing I can think of is 1) all their friends give them possitive feedback and 2) they create dupe accounts and flood their gamertag with possitive feedback. Is option 2 even possible? Seriously I've encountered some grade A jerks with 5 star reps and it just makes me feel like the whole feedback system is a crock. So lately I haven't even bothered rating anyone. The exception to that is I make sure all my friends have possitive feedback. Fortunately I usually play with the same core group of people and it keeps the asshat factor pretty low. Aholes come and go and usually get bored of trying to join after getting booted a couple times.

JoeyN
When you do the ratings, it does not matter if other people give the person good ratings. If you give him a bad rating, and your friends in the room with give him a bad rating, he will not join the public match's you guys are in during matchmaking. That's why leaving feedback for people you play with is important, even if other prefer to play with them.

GreenMonkey
I don't care about their total rating, just that I know if I see the frowny face to not play with them and to not get automatically connected with them.
