kelley
With exile's most unfortunate troubles caused by power surges, I'm in the market for a power unit. Time to get rid of the $15 walmart power strips powering my $5000 HT. I've found this thread over at AVS, I'm trying to decide what I should get. What do the rest of you guys use? I was thinking about getting this unit from APC: http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=BR1200
JoeyN
I said it a few years back when we had that huge power surge here, that everyone should make sure to have good surge protection. They saved all of our house electronics, where others in the neighborhood had everything burned out. I use this Monster HT surge bar in my HT, and these Monster one's around the rest of the house. They work great. The reason i use them so much is during that power surge I only had one at the time. While all the others in the house worked, the only one that didn't get all burnt up or didnt work afterwards was the monster one
exile
Monster catches a lot of hell for being pricey but they do back up their warranty. Panamax is also good. Both are lifetime $1M dollar warranties. What does APC offer? I'm the market as well.

When it comes to cables I wouldn't buy any of them, but there surge protectors are fantastic
exile
I like their cables but they are just pricey. Once you buy them heavily discounted they aren't bad at all.
Baiter
I have a whole house surge protector that installs at the breaker panel. I think I paid $350 install w/ the new house, you'll probably pay a little more with a retrofit. You have electrical equipment all over the house, I wouldn't spend the money guarding every outlet with different devices, when one product can protect them all. I think their cables are really nice, especially in the looks department. I'm thinking about getting an APC battery unit for my TV and then a monster unit for everything else. exile
I'm considering a whole house but it's less effective they say after you have your electrical put underground which is in progress..

Underground cabling is very nice during storms.
EnemaEms
I am a fan of the thick Monster speaker cable. I ran the THX braided shit through my entire HT, and the sound was easily improved. Even my g/f's ears noticed an improvement. -Dean-
kelley
Just ordered myself a Monster Power HTS-2000 MKII. ~$150 overnighted to my house, by god I love Amazon Prime!
Rainmaykr
When I was looking for a unit, I came across these from Belkin. They had everything I wanted, including battery back-up and voltage regulation, but for the life of me I couldn't find a review so I never bit. Anyone familiar with the performance on PureAV surge protectors?
kelley
Never had any experience with them. I got my Monster Power HTS 2000 Mk II in today, its a lot bigger then I was expecting and will require me to completely rewire my setup, sounds like a lot of fun! Starhawk
Im probably going to get the HTS 2000 with the new TV purchase.
kelley
Im probably going to get the HTS 2000 with the new TV purchase. Its a nice unit, Amazon has it for a great price and they are an authorized dealer. It qualifies for Prime too
Starhawk
I bought a higher end video switcher last year (I always see signal degradation in cheaper units) and there was some noise in the picture I couldnt get rid of, even with the help of the manufacturer. I ended up sending it back. Im thinking I had some sort of noise on my power line because I'd sometimes get pops from my speakers when un-pausing my DVR. I wonder if this unit could have helped me with the Clean Power Filtering? I won't be able to tell now that I recently moved down the street. Anyone have any Clean Power experience with the HTS 2000 or any other unit?
Starhawk
I got the HTS 2000 today, and yes it's a beast. It's funny how cool Monster tries to make their products look, yet some of the outlets on this strip are named, "VCR 1", "VCR 2", "Tape", etc. Seriously, where do I plug in my Phono!? JoeyN
I think on my monster power strip my PS3 is in the Tape plug
Starhawk
Yeah they should just label them "Video 1, Video 2," and so on. Im also not sure why the HTS 2000 has 3 sets of Coax ins and outs. One is labeled Antenna, Cable, and Satellite. Seriously, who's going to have all three, much less running through the same power strip. Just weird thoughts on the design. I love the voltage meter and the 12 inputs on it though. Also glad to have the line conditioning. Wish I had it before, because I had my first experience with "dirty power" at my old place. Update: I just moved, just plugged my receiver and speakers up for the first time, listening to Weezer's newest, and it sounds different, but really good. Dirty power from the old place gone? Can a power conditioner make my music actually sound better? Nah, probably just the new place.Time to do some A/B comparison though.
