Rob B
Ok some of you all know that I have been out of work since Jan. I had been out in the job market since than, and finding it to be somewhat stagnant. I had gone to interviews and sent out my resume but had no real hits. Well last Wednesday I went to interview up in Golden Valley at company called AEI electronics for an interview to be an assistant purchaser. I walked in and off to my left I see a bunch of high end home theater equipment racks and some speakers. I was like whoa cool. Than I walk up towards the counter and see some mixer boards like they use in concerts or recording studios, again whoa sweet. They have it all for commercial audio production and show. I sit down for my interview with the lady that will be my boss we talk for about 30 mins and than she asked if had time to talk to this other fellow. I say yes that fine. So the guy I talk to next is the VP of marketing. He and I mostly talk shop sales and what not since that's were lot of my exp lies. About half way though that he said that Denise really liked me and that he liked my presence, I'm thinking not a bad sign. We go on chit chatting for about another 15 mins after that. So about an hour between the two of them again I'm thinking this is good. So after the interview they, tell me they are looking to fill the position with in the week and they invited me to take a look around, so I do. Man I'm thinking if I get this job its gonna be right up my alley, upon seeing empty shells for guitar amps, some higher end amp chords, and microphones. So I leave the interview feeling pretty good. Than on Friday I found an excuse too call and ask a question about dress code so that my name is fresh in their heads over the weekend. This morning I woke up and sent my thank you email as follows: Rob Here, I just want to say thank you to you and Oleh for giving me the opportunity to talk to you both about the purchasing assistant position that your company has to offer. I really enjoyed talking to the both of you and getting to know a bit more about the your company as well as the history of it. I also wanted to yet you know that am still interested in the position as well. Thank you once again, and have a good day, Than today at 12:15 I had a phone call they said would you please stop calling us we will call you?????. Naw just kidding It was Denise calling to offer me the JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I start on Thursday its another Mon-Fri gig 830-5 and just a little under what I was making before but I'm not to worried about cause they do reviews at 30 60 and 90 days and offer the raise if it fits. Plus annually as well. So yea all it all it seems that my life is staring to fall back into place on so many different levels.

Part of it was that I suddenly had health insurance with a baby about 3 months from showing up.

ChrisBardon
Glad that you managed to find something. Unemployment is actually fun for about 2 weeks, then it stops feeling like "vacation" and starts becoming "dammit I have no money"

foogledricks
You joke hit me hard. I was reading your story and was waiting for a punchline. Because you getting the job is too obvious. So when you said that they told you to STOP CALLING, man, I fell for it big time. Almost laughed outloud.

Rob B
Well I now have a full week under my belt. I can say that the work I'm doing is interesting. I can also say I like the people I work with its very Lighthearted and feels somewhat like a family. Everyone gets along really well; people say good morning and have a goodnight/weekend. Boss asks how you are doing how your day is going. This may seem like small change to some, but for me it makes me feel welcome and part of the team and not just the new guy. No one seems to be stick up or cliquey, this was very much my experience at Target and because of that I never enjoyed going to work. I should note Fastenal was very much on the up and up with the stuff I listed above about my new Job. On the Fastenal note, My new Job is similar to what I was doing as a Manager at Fastenal, minus the sales stuff. Less stress in way I'm not saying I'm not exp stress at this new job there is, but right now it thinks from me wanting the stuff I'm learning to stick in my head faster than it is, just the way I'm wired. The job consists of expediting orders, i.e. calling vendors like Denon, Marants, and Mid-Atlantic cabinets(they are our biggest vendor) and confirming that PO's have been processed if we haven't received prior confirmation on. I also do some daily accounts receivable, enter payments from customers on their Invoices this can be a bit frustrating getting tings to balance out when odd stuff like credits, short pays from being tax exempt, and other discounts that may need to be applied. Its frustrating right now again just being new at and learning an archaic computer system, its called Wyse or something like that. The good news is that is all going to be stream-lined in to the main windows system in June. The other thing witch is really taxing me right now is doing returns. I say taxing right now and today it accrued to me as why. The reason is simply I wasn?t there when the stuff was "returned" so I don?t necessarily no the story behind it. So because of this doing the "detective" work is a bit harder right now. I do know this it should change, for example I had one today with one of our customers and I was there to get the return handed to me so I was able to ask the questions my self and it went much more smoothly than trying to read some else?s notes. Plus here there is a few more employees to track down and ask questions about the return vs. Fastenal It was just myself and the other manger so we always new what was what for the most part. I also do price changes in the Wyse system vendors will send us updated info, than its just a matter of doing the "our buying price" calculations and entering the sum in the appropriate spaces in the computer. Heh I use to be as bad at math as I am at spelling, but dealing with quotes and other daily numbers at Fastenal...... I even had wowed my ex-wife one night when she was doing the budget one time. She was writing every thing out and I was looking at the numbers and was like ohh this is what we have left... a few moments later she was like how did you do that when the hell did you get good at math. The last thing I am doing is QC checks were I go out to the warehouse, Does any body remember in LOST were they met "the others" for the first time?, and just basically check the out going invoices and makes sure part numbers, quantities, and packing look good to go out and sign off on it. You know kind of like this underwear was inspected by #42 so all and all that?s what I do on a daily basis. It's kind of need doing the order processing and recognizing vendors and some of the product line, with having an interest in music and home theater, seeing things I recognize. My 2 cents oh yea using the archaic computer makes me feel like I should be entering a certain set of numbers every 108 minutes but as far as I know the sky hasn't turned all purple yet so I guess I must be doing something right.
