Walking out of movies?

I've seen a number of posts about walking out on a movie, and I'm curious as to how widespread this is.

I have never walked out of a movie. I've seen some stinkers, for sure, but I've never crossed that line and felt I've had to get out before it ends.

So for those of you that have walked out, elaborate please.

What sets you off? How do you get unanimous consent from your party to leave? Do you get your money back?

Edit to add: What was the last movie you walked out of, and what about it made you decide to walk?

Carlos.

I have only walked out on one movie, Cabin Boy. I was a fan of Chris Elliot's "Get a Life" so I went to go see the film with an ex-girlfriend. After about 15 minutes I looked at her, could tell she was hating it. I thought it was idiotic as well so I asked her, "wanna go?". After an emphatic, "Yes!' we left. I don't know if I can elaborate any more about the film, it was Cabin Boy. :)

"You wanna buy a monkey?"

I've never walked out on a movie because it sucked. Only on those rare occasions when I have been paged by work.

the only movie I ever walked out on was kung pow... it was the stupidest movie I ever saw.. then napolean dynamite I hated.. many of u love it but horrible just horrible.

I watched Napoleon Dynamite with my wife. She didn't like it that much on a rental but for some reason she bought it anyway. We both watched it and agreed it was OK. I only laughed a couple of times. I don't quite get the fandom.

BTW: I loved Kung Pow. But you know, I've never watched it sober. I just remember it was hilariously funny when drinking. We watched it a few times that way. I remember laughing so hard my gut hurt. But that was after about 9 beers. Still on my shelf.

I saw Battlefield Earth in the theater with my buddies and my g/f (now wife). She slept through it. That was a good choice. I didn't walk out of that, though. I never walk out of movies and only rarely have I stopped watching a movie on DVD half way through.

I've never walked out of a movie - but I've been known to go and get my money back if the previews have already started before I get to the theater. I like previews... :)

My wife has walked out of a movie before though... I wasn't with her, so I can't comment on if I would have. The movie was Face-Off - she said it was the stupidest movie ever...

Face-off, as a movie, was fine. In fact, with the two characters basically acting each other, it was pretty interesting. You just have to ignore the wildly implausible nature of the whole premise of the movie. If you can do that (I have trouble with that, admittedly) it's a pretty decent movie.

I've never walked out of a movie (although when I was a kid the movie Earthquake scared me so bad I had to leave with my mom :) ), but I remember two movies where I saw other people leave. Ironically, the two movies are about as different as could be imagined.

The first was The Southpark Movie, which must have offended the (several) people that left.

The second was very recent, it's a movie called Into Great Silence which is a documentary about life in the strictest monastic order in the Catholic Church. Being that the monks are vowed to silence except for brief periods once a week, the movie is almost completely devoid of speech, and because the filmmakers wish to convey what life is like, most of the scenes are several minutes long (an eternity for one scene), and the only sounds are recorded from the environment, no music. The light is natural too, so some scenes are shot in darkness! It's challenging to sit through, but as you come to realize it's not even a fraction as challenging as being a monk there.

Those are the only two films I remember noticing people leave.

Only movie I've ever walked out of was last week, "300". Just couldn't take its loud, obnoxious, headache inducing crap anymore and had to leave. Also worth mentioning were the six idiots behind me who were so drunk you could smell the alcohol. Put those together and you have a real award-winning time at the movies.

My wife and I walked out of The Tailor Of Panama, but the tickets were free. We went because radio (and now TV) personality Glenn Beck paid to rent the theater and took "250 of his closest friends". We saw another movie that way too, but I don't remember what it was. My wife was uncomfortable seeing Pierce Brosnan playing the type of character he played in that movie. She preferred to think of him as James Bond.

I don't think I'll ever walk out of another movie, because I'm pretty much a Home Theater only person now. If I do go to the theater, I know exactly what I'm getting in to.

I have stopped a few rentals out of disgust or disinterest, though.

Move to Southeast Idaho, and you'll have a greater appreciation for Napolean Dynamite. You probably won't find it funnier, I'd wager you'd break down and cry realizing where you live.

I used to work in a movie theater, so I saw a bunch of movies for free. The only movie I ever walked out of was "The English Patient" but it wasn't because it was a horrible movie (not my cup of tea, but I saw MUCH worse movies). It was becuase me and a bunch of my friends decided for some reason it was a good idea to go see that movie drunk. We realized really quickly that we were completely lost and didn't want to risk becoming loud annoying asses while other people were enjoying the film.

Never have walked out of a movie. I came close to leaving during Fellowship of the Ring, but that was because there projecter stoped 3 different times, once for 20-30 minutes. The entire fight scene in the mine (...they called it a MINE!) was upside down on screen and part of the fight was missing. Near the end, since the movie was already running into the next showing, the projector for the ads/commercials came on while the movie was running. I was pissed at the experience, not the movie.

Never walked out of a movie in my life. But I don't go to movies very much anymore. There too expensive. I just usually wait for them to come out on DVD and rent them. There's other options too since I'm Canadian but I don't want to talk about that! ;) But I do remember way back in 1997, I wanted to see Halloween 6: The Curse of Micheal Myers (I'm a big horror fan) and I was suppose to have this college buddy of mine come with me. The movie started at 10:00pm so we decided to have a drink or two before it. Not getting drunk...just a beer. Well were no sooner at the bar finishing our second beer when he hooks up with this chick. Comes back to me and says "sorry buddy...found a better show" and left with her. I was like...wow. He gets picked up, I don't....how bad is my luck tonight.

Pretty bad....you see I was the only one who showed up for the movie. Nobody else. I gave the usher my ticket and spent the next hour and forty-five mins in the theatre by myself. I felt like The Omega Man or Vincent Price from "The last man on Earth". Oh the movie was okay...nothing great but had a hellva great washing machine kill! :D

Never walked out, but there are a few I wish I had:

* Natural Born Killers

* Highlander 2

* Die Hard 3

* Speed

* Independence Day

I know of many people who liked the last two, I couldn't stand either one. I wish I could reclaim the brain cells I lost while watching Natural Born Killers and Speed, some of my higher brain functions commited suicide to save the whole.

Never walked out but I tend to avoid movies that I know I won't like especially if they are politically motivated rubbish.

Usually movies I find that people walk out of are:

1. Not funny when they were supposed to be.

2. Movies that require alot of deep thought and the traditional audience can't handle that

3. Slowly paced films.

There have been quite a few films that I thought sucked until the last few minutes and it pulled me in finally and it clicked. I really didn't enjoy Fight Club until It's finally clicked with me.

Remember "Threesome?" With Lara Flynn Boyle and one of the minor Baldwin brothers? Only movie I ever walked out of. I was with a girl on one of our early dates, the first ten minutes or so were horribly banal, and there was something that made her uncomfortable, so we left. She was the one who wanted to see it. I've never felt compelled to go back and watch it since.

I've seen plenty of others I should have walked out on, though -- including Highlander 2. God knows the number of hours of my life wasted on bad movies.

I don't think I've walked out of a movie, but I've stopped my fair share of rental DVDs midway through, most recently:

Ice Age 2 (spare me with the biblical / religious parallels)

Passion of the Christ (I was curious...I should have known better)

Chasing Amy (gimme a f'n break ... lesbians don't convert like that. Trust me. I've tried)

Pearl Harbor (at least try to be a little historically accurate)
