Romier S
It's been a LONG time coming, but the PSP looks to have finally dropped in price to $169.99 for the Core System. You can read the details right here: http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/02/psp-price-drop-core-pack-down-to-169-99-tomorrow/
JFo
I'd say this is a good move on Sony's part if they are interested in competing with the DS. It will be interesting to see if this helps jump start sales of the system. It will also be interesting to see if Nintendo follows suit and lowers the price on the DS. Considering how well it's selling right now, I doubt they will unless the PSP price drop cuts into Nintendo's sales. The Big N still has a price advantage overall and a lot of momentum built up. The NPD numbers for April should be interesting, that's for sure.
GreenMonkey
YAY! I want to play emulated PS1 and SNES on the go. Not that I go anywhere. With all the homebew this is like the ultimate oldschool gamer emulator system No money now but I'll look into it in the fall.
dogbert
It's official. The base PSP Core Pack has dropped 15 percent from $199 to $169 and the Entertainment Pack dropped 20 percent from $249 to $199. In addition, Sony added Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror and Daxter to the PSP's $20 Greatest Hits library. $20 is a great price for either game. I heard that the bios gets fried if Sony finds out (ie. via updates). Is that true or complete BS? I was thinking of getting a DS and play some old school SNES/NES games. Never had a PS1, so don't really care for their games.
Angry the Clown
That comes to abouyt ?85 then. Interest in importing a PSP.... rising.... sort of. It'd only gather dust though... and yet... Wipeout...

Basically you just toss your own PS1 ISO into it and it works. The SNES emulator needs some frameskip once in a while IIRC. You need a lot of work to flash the bios. Depending on the firmware version you will need 1-2 flashes, and there is some small risk of bricking it (just like any bios flash). Sony keeps making BIOS updates necessary for games, but the homebew community keeps making their own BIOS upgrades a bit behind Sony. And a few models of the PSP aren't hackable. If you can it would be better to get one in person as you can check the serial number and it gives you an idea of what version BIOS/motherboard is in it. I think the worst thing that happens is you flash it with a newer Sony firmware and you lose your mod. Or the small chance that you brick it somehow during the hacking process. IMO if you don't want PS1, the DS is the way to go. You can buy many of the best SNES games for it, and there's plenty of non-flashing required devices for running homebrew on it. The SNES emulators for the DS are pretty mediocre at this point, but NES runs fine under the different well-tuned GBA emulators. I used a Supercard for mine (before it got broken due to physical damage somehow).

Angel P
Thanks to this price drop, I'll finally consider picking one up. My brother took the plunge yesterday and picked up Call Of Duty with it. Gotta admit, although a CoD fan, can't see myself playing these games on the PSP with only one analog stick. Wipeout will probably be my first game.
Rainmaykr
Any word on getting a white model released stateside?
Angel P
Anyone know of any games in the Hotel Dusk/Phoenix Wright mold for the PSP? That would definately get me to picking one up sooner rather than later. Love those type of games on the go. Wish there was some way to play Snatcher, Deja Vu or Shadowgate on the PSP. Magness
Not quite the same but, there are some original PS1 games that are in that "mold". The adventure game type stuff or maybe Fear Effect or Resident Evil 2 - those types of games. And using custom firmware - you can rip any of your own PS1 games that you want and play them on your PSP. Other than that I don't know. The DS and PSP seem to have distinctively different genres represented on their systems. Not good or bad either way - just that each system seems to genuinely play to its own strengths... Union Carbine
Is there a good site for homebrew PSP stuff?
Magness
I use http://www.dcemu.co.uk/ for news/info/instructions - all that... And links to the free stuff. PSP specific homebrew link is http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/ Edit: Wanted to ask if anyone has tried full res movie playback under 3.30 OE-A yet? Peter O
I like the Maxconsole PSP forums. Lots of good info there and it is where Dark Alex goes first with his custom firmware postings. Nope, I haven't tried converting a movie in full-res PSP format as I rarely watch movies on my PSP.
