Whooter
Yeah, I saw that awhile back. Works for any US location to anywhere in Europe. They always route you through Boston, though. Must be good diving in off Long Wharf...
foogledricks
I assumed it was going to bring you to an airport. When I saw the swim reference, I thought that was very funny. Do you think it is 100% joke, or does this come up in other circumstances. Can you set google directions to not be from a car, but on foot? My wife's GPS can do that, so it won't adhere to roads. In which case it literally will tell you to go places where cars can't.
Starhawk
This is wicked cool. Anyone see this yet?
BdoUK
Cameron, I was playing with that feature yesterday. Really neat stuff. I can't imagine how much work it was to get all those images though.

It's a large white van with a 360 degree camera in a dome on top. Monotonous but easy to drive around San francisco with it.
Jordan_E
They haven't updated our area for at least 3 years on Google Map. We've had a new school and at least 200 houses in place where it just shows empty lots yet; wouldn't want one of those "white vans" parked in my neighborhood anyway, as my yard needs some serious work! LOL.
foogledricks
I guess people are complaining about privacy, since there are some shots that frame strip clubs and so forth, so you can see people walking out of them. Like your girlfiend working another job. Or your husband who said he was working late.
rustyjaw
Here's the camera that was used. We've been playing with it at work for a few days. We managed to find a co-worker on the street outside the office. Some people clearly noticed the van, because occasionally you'll see a person looking right at the camera and even follow it as it passes by. It's very cool technology, I can't wait until they integrate it more with searching.

Yep, a few coworkers are pictured on the streets near the office, and one of our coworkers is even pictured looking at the camera. There's been a lot of fun here digging around the city, such as the guy walking out of a strip club on O'Farrell.
