kelley
Well I started out with the JVC 61FH97, which has a great picture most of the time, but the amount of SSE exhibited by the screen and inability to fix a geometry problem that was driving me nuts I returned it. I then placed a hold on a new LED Samsung, the 6187S. That was supposed to be in Friday, they got pushed back so I decided to try the Sony 60A2020, it came out of the box with a tilted screen, which I fixed by adjusting the horizontal lever, well after fixing the tilt its got a horrible pin cushion on the right side. They are going to bring out another one tomorrow. I hope this one is geometry issues free. If this one or the 6187S don't do it for me I don't know what I'll do. foogledricks
Are you as loose with your women? Every HDTV I've bought (two) was a long drawn out process of research and eventual purchase. Going through and returning that number of TVs in such a short time reminds me of my college years.

kelley
My salesperson told me that I really should consider buying a plasma screen considering how much geometry problem annoy me, the Pioneer 5070 is looking very tempting, but I hate the thought of losing 10 inches of screen size. I'm hoping this new 60A2020 works out.

exile
Drop by my house and fix that problem of yours All Pioneer has on my screen is better SD and SD looks damn good here. I'd be anal retentive too after I dropped $3kish on a new TV. If you are buying at Ultimate, make sure you check out Mathis brothers while you are at it for pricing, They were cheaper by a good margin than Ultimate, BB or the other place near my work. If anything make sure you are getting the lowest price.
General Zot
I know this isn't a popular opinion, but I would drop the 1080p and consider the best 720p/1080i TV that fits in your budget. 1080p is still bleeding edge and the adoption rate so far has been slow IMHO. Other than a Bluray disc or HD-DVD, you won't find much to feed that resolution and I have suspicions that even then the disc authors aren't fully using it to advantage yet. In another few years, the sets will be as cheap as the 720p ones now. Go for quality of picture first and resolution second. But each to his own, good luck
The1TruGod
Hope pioneer plasma users now that the reason why they look so good is they have the most phosphurous...(i cant spell to save my life)...and therefore have the greatest chance of image retention
PackFan
I have never seen any geometry issues with my Sony 60XS955 set... I love this TV. The only reason I have wanted to upgrade is for 1080p, but I probably won't do that for a while. Although that 65" 1080p Panasonic plasma...:drool
kelley
Well I'm finally happy. After going through one JVC 61FH97, two Sony 60A2020s, and two Samsung HL-T6187s I finally have found a winner...and it is the Sony KDS-R60XBR2. My god its an absolutely beautiful TV and worth every single penny spent. The people who claim the A2000/A2020 line can be made the equal of the XBR2 are just too poor to afford the XBR2 and are kidding themselves. The quality of the XBR2 craps all over the cheaper SXRDs. The TV is build like a tank, and its about the size of a tank too!
Bruce B
Very nice Kelley. Read up on it a little and it seems extraordinary. I think the only thing I didnt like was a front HDMI port. Who wants a cable sticking out of the front of your tv? Otherwise fantastic!
foogledricks
How can you argue with someone whose research is actually acquiring and testing the candidates himself.
Bruce B
How can you argue with someone whose research is actually acquiring and testing the candidates himself. Well, I have a test for impaired judgement. 1. They think the Fifth Element was a great movie 2. They are a Red Sox fan 3. They would choose a non franchised video football game over Madden 4. They use ketchup on prime rib 5. They devote their lives to cover art 6. Their name rhymes with Heath Red dicks.

kelley
The wife is like FINALLY! But even she agreed that there is no doubt about it, once you go XBR you don't go back. The HDMI port on the front of the TV is so you can hook up your Sony HD camcorder, which has HDMI also on it. My only complaint with the unit is the lack of 1080p support on the Component inputs, just puts me one step closer to re-buying an Xbox 360. MrJames
The VGA input on the XBR's should accept 1080p.
kelley
The VGA input on the XBR's should accept 1080p. It does but I believe there is a bug with it that doesn't make it fill the screen all the way. Rumors point to a firmware update needed to fix it, will we see it I doubt it at this point. Starhawk
What specifically made this set trump all the others in picture quality? Did any of the others come close?
kelley
What specifically made this set trump all the others in picture quality? Did any of the others come close? Clarity, detail, uniformity both in brightness and color. No I really don't think any of the other sets came close, but the Samsung did put out some nice color, but I just felt that the unit lacked the detail that the XBR2 has. Thinking back on this whole journey the XBR2 was the set that I wanted from the start but lack of money prevented me from getting it. Thankfully after going through several lemons of TVs and Sears having an amazing sale on the 60XBR2 it finally came into my price range and I was able to get it. Have I mentioned how much better the build quality is on the set compared to all the other ones I've had in my house. The XBR2 is far from a slim TV, but that really helps strengthen the frame which helps keep the image straight.
Cyberwoo
Can't wait for the black frame XBR units coming this fall. Me wants but me wants black. The wait is getting painful. Congrats on finally getting a new set.
