Romier S
Everyone remember Sony's horrible conference from a few years ago at E3? Yeah, the massive damage one. Well, one thing that came out of that conference that I really, really liked was the first look at a little game called Eye of Judgement. It's basically a card battle game that uses the new Playstation 3 Eye Camera in a few unique ways(such as projecting your hand/card into the game etc). the mic in the camera allows for voice chat also and it will no doubt end up having some form of online functionality. Here's a few screenshots: Hopefully it ends up being as cool as it looks.:tu
kelley
I really like the idea behind this. I wonder how much it will cost with the new Eye Camera and what the booster packs will run.
JoeyN
Yep that was the one game I remember saying I was excited about trying out after the Keynote. Looking forward to more information

Camp
So, is there any new info on this? Is it poised to be a pack in with the camera? The camera isn't wireless, is it? That might be an issue depending upon where your table is in relation to your PS3.
JoeyN
I believe its a seprate game. You buy a game which has the game disc, and a starter kit. You then buy cards like a normal TCG/CCG which what special chips or something in them the camera reads, and put's into the game
Romier S
It does come packed with the camera Camp. It also comes with the camera stand (for proper placement of the camera), the play mat, and a deck of 30 cards and a booster pack of 8 random cards of different rarities. Pretty much everything pictured in the first shot of the new screens I posted minus the PS3 and the SIXAXIS controller of course:). Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast are working with Sony to create even more booster packs which will be made available after the games release (I'd imagine there will also be downloadable booster packs as well). Online play is definitely confirmed by the by. There is a great video interview showing off how the game is played along with a ton of information (some of which I just went over) right here: http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/theeyeofjudgment/media.html Also, you can see details for the camera in this post Camp: PS3 Camera announcement USB connection it appears. No wireless.
Camp
Yea, I guess that's the most likely scenario. However, accessories like this generally ship with a pack-in game. If this turns out to be a killer app for the camera it would be smart for Sony to offer a pack-in varient of the camera. That would work because of the additional (and unprecented) revenue stream the booster pack and additional decks would bring.
Magness
This really could be a cool game/concept... Guess it remains to be seen how it will actually play, though it sure seems promising - regardless.
dogbert
Guess it remains to be seen how it will actually play A boardgame designer (and videogame designer) acquaintence of mine got to play it at the last E3. I hope it's came on a long way from what he saw.
Romier S
Penny Arcade has a great writeup on the game and they are extremely positive on it for anyone interested.... http://www.penny-arcade.com/ Would the game play just as well without cards? Absolutely. But the physicality of card placement and interaction has its own virtues. Cards are recognized in a second or less, so watching them transformed is actually a very interactive, exciting process. You don't actually need the PS3 to play it - the game can be played on a regular table without any electronic accompaniment. But you'll probably find, as we did, that having a perpetually available neutral arbiter who will track all numeric systems is pretty convenient. As a cool Augmented Reality play by Sony and Hasbro, the whole thing is just kind of... noble. I say noble, because I'm not sure it will find a home in either camp - the dedicated electronic gamer, or the CCG enthusiast. It should, I believe it should, because it's a solid product that bridges those disciplines in a unique and satisfying way - but this idea is much bigger than Eye of Judgment. When you consider what this could mean for the tabletop, I think we may rightly call this The Beginning.
Covak
I've never played a CCG before, but this sounds like something I'd like to pick up, especially if the online play is solid.

Magness
Well alot of impressions of this game coming from PAX... Most are saying it plays pretty well and they generally seem to like it. Most of the screens and vids I've seen support this too - it appears it looks and plays exactly like we all thought it would This might be the game that finally pushes me to get a PS3 (ironically). ARSTechnica has an article on it, linked below... The main thing that grabbed me in the ARS article is the potential for other IP's and card packs like Transformers/Star Wars/Etc. The Eye game itself looks great but, just the idea of playing a Star Wars CCG via the Eye gets me giddy heheheh http://arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.ars/2007/08/28/pax-hands-on-with-eye-of-judgement-with-the-possibility-of-transformers-cards
Josh
Going to try this this afternoon, hopefully, along with updates of Uncharted, R&C, Folklore, etc. Will update you guys when I have a chance.
Magness
Cool Josh - Please get specifics on the camera if you can... I still haven't seen much detailed info on it to date.
Josh
Will do - when you say details, do you mean... cost? How it works?
Magness
Yea cost and how it works.... But also (if you would) stuff like its native resolution, its native aspect ratio, will any software be included with it if purchased by itself, is it powered off the USB connection port or does it require a separate power brick to be plugged in and given the scissor stand it looks to be mounted on will it have any mechanical (or even simulated) pan/tilt/zoom functionality? Thanks Josh
Eric M
According to EBGames the camera is included with Eye of Judgment for the $60 price. I have to say that this is one of the few games that interests me for the PS3 just because it's so different (and I'm not a CCG-guy either). I'm kind of hoping this catches on and we get some other games in the same vein for Star Wars and other big properties.
Josh
Played this, and it's ridiculously fun. Not sure why, but the combination of the camera, cards, creatures, and gameplay in general just makes this something I am terrified to sink my teeth into in the pure interest of my social life and sanity. The camera is the standard new Eye camera and it just slides into the stand. When it comes out October 23, you'll get the game, the camera, the mat, the stand, and a deck of 30 cards. It will cost under $100 (he was dodgy about final price details). Gameplay is intuitive for the beginner but the potential for crazy skill is huge here. The camera was responsive, and the interface is very intuitive. As far as camera specifics, I'm really not sure. It's the Eye camera, though, so it'll be whatever that is (meaning USB powered and pretty simple). Sorry if that doesn't help much. It's surprisingly cool, though. I'm in. I can see some 4-hour online matches on a snowy Sunday in our futures. Any questions about gameplay, balance, cards, etc.?
JoeyN
Josh any word on how much the expansion packs will cost/ how many cards per pack? The one thing about CCG's is not many last long, but I am hoping because of the coolness factor this will stick around for a while

The one thing about CCG's is not many last long, but I am hoping because of the coolness factor this will stick around for a while Frankly, there's not a chance of this CCG sticking around - the target market & requirements for 'entry' to the game make it far far too narrow for it to be a big raving success that lasts. That's not to discourage you from buying it, it looks cool, just enter with your eyes open A year from now, cards won't be getting printed & be on remainder. JoeyN
Yep I know all about CCG's. Used to be big into Trek, SW and a few other lesser known games. Also reviewed games for a site (which was fun as I got free box's, and did demo's at conventions in NY for decipher (trek, sw). Most games do not last past the first expansion. Which is sad as some very good games never had a chance
