Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer

Recommended Posts

I'm not at all a fan of the original film. In fact, I find it to be downright crap for the most part but I'm liking the trailer for the sequel. Maybe it's because I like the Silver Surfer. Or maybe it's because I'm hoping to god that Galactus is in the film.()

Either way, here's the new trailer:

Romier, prepare to be spoiled in major major fashion:

Galactus is in the film, relatively briefly, as a "brain cloud" in space.

You haven't been keeping up with the controversy on this one?

Nope, feel free to unload with tags if you have more info over what Brian posted. I'm ok with spoilers for this one;).

As far as the spoiler Brian posted (and I spoilered your response Chris in case anyone didn't want to know that;) ):

I'm ok with something akin to Ulimate Galactus. My dream and fanboy wish would be to see the classic purple suited Galactus in all of his glory onscreen but that's a tough sell to general audiences so I understand the change.

I know nothing about the Fantastic Four (other than the film sucked) but I always thought the Silver Surfer was a "good guy". Is that not the case?

Silver Surfer was at one time the Herald of Galactus Camp. He would act as a "scout" of sorts bringing his world eating master to new planets for consumption. When the Surfer brings Galactus to Earth, he is touched by the nobility of its inhabitants and individuals like the Fantastic Four and he rebels against Galactus (who gave the Surfer the "Power Cosmic" that gives him all of his abilities). Galactus then exiles the Surfer to Earth for his transgressions by creating a barrier around that planet that keeps the Surfer trapped. At which point he becomes the "good guy" you know him as.

It's worth mentioning that in '06 the Surfer once again became Herald to Galactus to stave off attacks on the planet eater by Annihilus's Annihilation Wave.

This is the planet sized bad ass I'd love to see up on the screen though:

(Excellent CGI still of the character destroying a planet from the recent Marvel Ultimate Alliance game)

I see. Thanks for the explanation. I always wanted to get into comics but I find the back story (genesis of the character, etc.) much more interesting than the actual stories. In other words, your explanation was entertaining. ;)

I just can't muster up much excitement for this one. Maybe it's because the CGI Silver Surfer looks like they re-used the T-1000 CG model from Terminator 2. Chrome CG is so 1991. ;)

The Silver Surfer/Galactus characters don't seem the best fit for movie adaptions. A guy that flies through space on a surfboard to find lunch for his gigantic master sounds pretty ludicrous. :D And I was a die-hard Fantastic Four comic book collector back in the day (I still have FF#5!).

Of course, it does, when you put it like that. :lol

So does "A group of short people take an incredibly long time to return one unwanted piece of jewelry." ;)

Yeah but they're cute little guys with furry feet. Plus I don't think they brought their original receipt with them. You know how customer service is-- "If we make an exception and take back your ring of power without the original receipt, then every Tom, Dick, and Gandalf, will be coming in here trying to return their ring of power."
