  1. After becoming fed up with the noise and lousy cooling of the stock cooler that came with my XFX 6800gt, I decided to purchase an Arctic Cooling vga silencer 5. My system is as follows: A64 3200+ ASUS K8n-e Deluxe Antec Sonata XFX 6800gt Installation was pretty easy, and I've never installed anything like this before. I simply removed the screws from both the fan and the back side of the card and the stock fan and heatsink came right off. After scraping off the leftover thermal gunk from the core and the memory, I applied arctic silver 5 to the core and the thermal paste from the silencer package to the memory. Make sure to plug the fan connecter to the card before mounting the silencer to the card. I was very concerned about breaking the screws by overtightening (after reading several reviews online) so at first I was very careful and didn't tighten the screws enough. Big Mistake!! After booting up and checking the temps I see that the core temp is at 103!!! I quickly powered down and tightened the screws several more turns. The instructions are very vague, as they just say to tighten until the rubber washer "compresses slightly." With the stock cooler I was getting an idle core temp of 59 and ambient temp of 43. Under full load, the core temp went up to 83 and ambient up to 56! Now, with the silencer properly installed, my idle temps are 51 on the core and 38 ambient. Under full load, these temps rise to 69 and 46. Needless to say I am very happy with the results, as the silencer has reduced my core temps, ambient temps, and noise level by quite a bit. I haven't tried oc'ing yet, I'm gonna give the as5 a few days before trying to push it. These temps are probably still a little higher than where they should be, but I think an intake fan for my Sonata (which also blows air right over the video card) will help with that. Overall I think this is a great replacement for the shoddy stock cooling on some of the gt's.
  2. Its a function that smoothes out jagged lines, at the cost of some performance/fps.
  3. Here are some screenies that I have taken. I'm not very far into the game (just arrived today from Amazon!!) I'm running it at 1600x1200 on High settings with everything turned on. Haven't fiddled with antialiasing yet, but will a little later and see how it affects performance. http://members.dslextreme.com/users/justint/Doom3/ I will be updating my screenshots onto this page, so you can check back frequently for updates!
  4. I saw this card nib last week at fry's for $399. I'm a little upset I didn't pick it up...
  5. Thanks...yesterday they weren't accepting pre-orders, the page said that the product was backordered. Too bad they charge me sales tax here in California. How does the eVga card compare to the BFG and PNY cards?

  7. I also got MS tech support on a good day. They fixed my drive for free even though I had a launch xbox that was not under warranty. Give them a call, you may get lucky.
  8. Anybody been able to pull off a double switch? I haven't been able to do it, and think it might be a glitch. You can't pinch hit for the pitcher with a position player, and then keep that player in the game and place a new pitcher in a different spot in the lineup. The game always wants to keep the pitcher in the 9 spot, so I end up with a position player as a pitcher and a pitcher as a position player. This is frustrating since the double switch is a very useful tool in those close and late situations! Let me know if anybody has any luck, I've tried everything and can't get it to work.
  9. EA's FIFA 2003 is hands down my favorite sports title on the xbox. It can be found pretty cheap now since I think the 2004 version is going to be released in the next few months. Of course, you might just want to wait for the newest version.
  10. I really enjoyed this game on the PC, and am drooling over the prospect of 16 plane dogfights, CTF, etc on xbox live. The official website lists 6 different types of online play (dogfight, team dogfight, keepaway and team keepaway, ctf, and "wild chicken.") The screenshots look great so far as well. EB has the game listed with a 10/21 realease date. Is this accurate? Who else is interested?
  11. I've been unable to get it to work through xboxlive.com, but it works fine when I go through xbox.com/live. Maybe thats your problem???
  12. I also got my tag linked. Pretty cool for now. Anybody know how to set up a Guest Account on Live? I'd like to set one up for my roomate (who is horrible, and is killing my stats!!). The xboxlive website has a little blurb about setting one up but doesn't say specifically how. Is this going to be one of the new features come September?

  14. ant1, Could you PM me the link? I saw it the other day but didn't have a chance to check it out, and forgot the url. Thanks!
