MastaRedSnappa got a reaction from JFo in Nintendo Switch discussion thread (Switch Lite, handheld only for $200 announced and launching 20th Sept 2019)
Some thoughts after running some tests (comparing bluetooth Apple AirPods Pro with wired Apple Earbuds):

    - The max volume of wired audio is about 50% higher than with bluetooth audio. Each audio output has its own saved volume level when you switch between them.
    - On bluetooth audio, the sound seems more compressed and has more static, mostly noticeable in the higher pitched sounds.
    - Lag for bluetooth audio was not noticeably worse than wired audio. I bought (and returned) a bluetooth adapter that plugged into the Switch's USB-C port because it had noticeable lag.
    - I did not notice any change in the performance of the joy-cons (used wirelessly) while using bluetooth audio (I was sitting a couple of feet away from the Switch).

It seems like Nintendo prioritized minimizing lag over sound quality by being aggressive with the compression. The sound quality is not great but I think it is acceptable for casual use. Nintendo could have limited this feature to just the upcoming OLED Switch but they gave it to all Switch owners (albeit 4.5 years late) and I think that deserves some praise. It has its trade-offs but it's a welcome addition to me.

I can confirm that my launch Switch can connect with my AirPods Pro now. Bluetooth bandwidth must really be an issue if using bluetooth audio limits the amount of wireless controllers to two. I'm fine with that tradeoff.

Ok with it probably wasn't the best phrase. Maybe accepting of it is more accurate. Analogue doesn't really have a lot of competition when it comes to the type of high-end products that they make so their customers are willing to accept that there may be delays, short supply, etc. I agree that if you waited a year, there's no reason not to keep on waiting (unless you need the money for something else, of course).

The DualSense controller was the biggest revelation for me. The rumble is as good as the Switch's HD rumble and with the built-in speaker, it feels even better. The first time I experienced the adaptive triggers, I thought something got jammed in them when they wouldn't press down easily.

In what I *think is a good sign, I got an email from GAME that shipping is expected on or before September 1st for my order and they did charge me today. I don’t want to get too excited yet though… but I’m a little bit 😬

I guess it was inevitable but it's still sad to see the 3DS go out like this. I'll always love the clamshell design of the GBA SP/DS/3DS.

MastaRedSnappa got a reaction from iainl in Introducing the Steam Deck - Starting at $399 and coming in December
I wasn't clear about this in my first post but I wasn't suggesting that the Steam Deck should have game cartridges (that would go against their entire Steam business model). I was pointing out that the lack of a physical media alternative makes the internal storage more limiting, particularly with AAA PC games being so huge (COD: Modern Warfare requires 231GB, Quantum Break requires 178GB, COD: Warzone requires 175GB, Destiny 2: Shadowkeep requires 165GB, Red Dead Redemption 2 requires 150GB, Final Fantasy XV requires 148GB, NBA 2K21 requires 121GB, etc.). Even with the 512GB internal SSD model, it can fill up quickly. Micro SD cards are an option but at around $40 for 256GB, $70 for 512GB, and $175 for 1TB, that would just add to the cost of the device (particularly if you are buying multiple micro SD cards) and cut into the cost benefits of having your entire Steam library available/not re-buying games argument.

Target has Paper Mario (physical) for $29.99 right now. I bought it with the Target Red Card to get an additional 5% off.

I have about 45 hours in to Monster Hunter Rise now and I have to say, to me, it's probably the best looking non-first party Switch game. Looks and runs great. If this is how good of a game Capcom can make on one of the first titles using the RE engine, I can't wait to see what they can do with a few years of experience.

I recently Monster Hunter World on my PS5 and played my save for about an hour. The graphics on World are obviously more detailed and realistic and, at least on the latest consoles, 60fps. But I prefer everything else about Rise: the vertical gameplay with the wirebugs, faster travel with palico riding, built-in monster tracking, rampages, radial menu shortcuts, riding monsters to attack other monsters, etc.

Hopefully, Capcom includes most of these additions in World 2.

My wife gave me a PS5, Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Launch Edition, Sack Boy, and a 2nd controller for our anniversary so I'm now part of the next generation like all the cool kids. I had been only playing my Switch and using my PS4 to play Beat Saber so it's been fun getting back into Playstation gaming again. It was also a pleasant surprise to see the Playstation Plus Collection included. I didn't realize that was even a thing. The PS5 is so much quieter than my PS4 too. If it wasn't for the glowing lights, I wouldn't even know the PS5 was on.

I ended up buying this iovroigo halo strap on Amazon (it's $36.99 + a 5% off coupon):
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08LGSFQYR/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_1DCXZ9DQSF4VK991DB1S

Compared to the Elite strap, the build quality isn't up to par. It just feels a little cheaper. However, the halo strap design does alleviate all the pressure of the headset on your face. It does a good job of approximating what the PSVR feels like. If I had to do it again, I would buy this over the Elite strap.

I also bought AMVR lens protectors so that my glasses can't come in to contact with the Quest 2's lenses. They work well (I bought a different brand that was cheaper and the lens protectors didn't even protrude past the center of the lenses that stick out so they provided no protection). I can now get rid of the glasses spacer that comes with the Quest 2.
