  1. Gone gold! Six weeks from today! I cannot wait to get my hands on this.
  2. So, wait, is this something you install in a PC or something?
  3. This evening, out of the blue, my oldest boy Aaron (7) said that he wanted to get this game called Tracks on Xbox. He was watching a video on YouTube Kids that featured it and thought it looked fun. It's a game where you can build wooden toy railroad tracks and ride around on them inside the toy locomotive in first-person view. Skeptical, I grabbed my iPad and looked it up in the Xbox Store. I wanted to see what this game was about — and more importantly — how much it cost. Surprise! It's on Game Pass! After a quick download (the game is less than 700MB), he was off building elaborate track sets and having a blast. He informed me he might just play it forever.
  4. Having now watched/played the big three Star Wars releases in the past few months — The Rise of Skywalker, The Mandalorian, and Jedi: Fallen Order — I was thinking I might finally dive into The Clone Wars on Disney Plus. I’ve never seen the series, so I would have to start from the beginning. I’m pretty excited to check it out, as I’ve heard lots of good things over the years. Best of all, I now know that the finale will be waiting for me once I reach the end of season 6. That finale is going to be brutal though. I can sense it.
  5. The Outer Worlds is another Game Pass title I have installed and ready to go. I have not play many (or any?) Obsidian games, so I don’t have the reverence for them that others do. That’s a great example of a game that interests me, but I don’t know if I would buy it outright, sight unseen. A month or two ago, I remember hearing Ian Hinck of Easy Allies talk about a conversation he had with some people that worked at Obsidian. He asked them whether or not it was better if people bought The Outer Worlds outright rather than play it on Game Pass. Their response: We love it if you play it on Game Pass (or something to that effect). They didn’t seem to have any hesitation about people playing it on there rather than buying it. Hinck did acknowledge that Obsidian is now owned by Microsoft, so that may play a factor in what they said. Still it sounds like playing it on Game Pass doesn’t necessarily mean you’re screwing over the developers (at least one would hope). I think we both know what Sony needs to do there: make their first-party titles available on PS Now day and date with the retail release.
  6. So, I finished played Baby's First Souls Game, a.k.a. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, last night. And you know what? I loved it! I loved the combat. I love the traversal. I loved the exploration. I loved the story. I loved the characters. I loved the acting. Everything about this game worked for me. Sure it was a little glitch-y in parts, but nothing game-breaking. The only thing I didn't like were the load times between deaths. I played on Jedi Master difficulty, which means I died a lot -- which means I had to wait a lot. Still it felt good to make it through to end of the story, knowing that I beat it on hard. If you're a Star Wars fan, I can't recommend this game strongly enough. It is what you hoped for and more. Go get it!
  7. I'm not opposed to buying titles I've already played on Game Pass. However, the amount of money I'm willing to spend for a game I've already played -- and in most cases still have access to through the service -- is way lower. For instance, had I not been subscribed to Game Pass at the time, I would have bought Gears 5 over the holidays when it was on sale for $30 (as I did with Gear of War 4 back in 2016). I didn't though because it seemed like a waste of money to pay extra for a game I could already play (and had played at launch). At some point, yes, I would like to officially add it to my collection, but not for that much money. Maybe if it were $10 or less -- but not $30. I still like having a big video game collection, and I still buy lots of games. However, Game Pass has me rethinking my relationship with said collection. Do I need to own every game I play? I don't think so. Do I want to own the games I love the most or the ones I'm most excited for? Absolutely. The question I have to ask is how much am I willing to pay for them now that these types of services exist?
  8. If you have Gold or Game Pass Ultimate, it was on sale last week for $19.99. I thought about getting it, but decided not to as I already have more than enough games in my Pile of Shame to worry about. That said, now that it's coming to Game Pass, I'll probably bump it up to the top of the list. Go figure.
  9. More games coming to Game Pass soon, including A Plague Tale: Innocence. I'm pretty stoked about A Plague Tale, which arrives tomorrow. That's one I've wanted to play since it came out last year. Good timing, too, as I just finished up Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order last night. 😋
  10. Congratulations on completing all 16 games in your quest, Mark! I’ve replayed a bunch of the games in the series over the past decade thanks to the various remakes and re-releases , but I don’t know if I could play the entire series again in the span of a little over a year. Well done!
  11. I can only hope your PS4 wasn’t as dirty as some of the ones in this video. 🤢
  12. Here's mine: My top 3 games were Spider-man (46 hours), Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair (29 hours) and Tetris Effect (26 hours). I played 12 games in all across 122 hours on 75 different days. I earned 148 trophies -- two of them Platinums. Compared to my stats on Switch, this was a pretty light year for the ol' PS4 Pro. They did last year. I'm surprised they haven't posted anything yet. I'll be curious to see where the Xbox One lands in my overall play time rankings. My guess is second place, but I think it might be neck-in-neck with Switch.
  13. I dare say, this looks like it might be kind of good.
  14. If you like, you can check out your year in review at Nintendo.com. Nintendo Switch Year in Review 2019 Some stats from my report:
  15. Not working for me either. I'll be sure to check it out when the site comes back up. I love seeing how I wasted my time throughout the year.
  16. Yep. I just looked at mine and it is indeed gone. The funny thing though is that when I try to change my billing from a 3-months to 1-month, it's giving me an error. The good news is that I'm set for another full year (as in one year from tomorrow, in fact), so I don't have to worry about it right now.
  17. It’s official: With PS5 On The Way, Sony Will Skip E3 Again Jason Schreier, reporting for Kotaku: Schreier added the following on Twitter:
  18. Richard shares how Digital Foundry will be analyzing games with the arrival of the next gen consoles. Considering how many different versions of each game they may have to look at for the next few years — current-gen base and enhanced consoles plus the next-gen consoles as well — it makes sense for them to streamline the process so that they can get everything done faster. Still, I’m not sure I’d want to have to play through these games as many times as they have to in order to cover all the bases for analysis.
  19. I’m pretty sure Nintendo had a booth presence at E3 last year. They haven’t done a press conference since switching to Nintendo Directs, but they still show off their games on the show floor. Microsoft, on the other hand, has done the big press conference, but they keep all their presence at the Microsoft Theater (formerly the Nokia Theater) across the street. Perhaps you meant to say Microsoft? As for Sony, the only question about them returning to E3 this year was whether or not their absence in 2019 was solely due to them not having anything new to show off last year. Obviously, they have a lot to show this year. If they skip E3 on the year of a console launch, we can be pretty certain they’re never coming back.
  20. This game’s soundtrack is going to be lit.
